John McCain and Joe Lieberman have gotten pretty cozy the last couple of years. My take? On the off chance McCain wins the Republican nomination, look for him offer--and Lieberman to accept--the Vice Presidential slot as a kind of "national unity" ticket.
They might even go public before the end of the year--or between Iowa and New Hampshire--to give McCain a big boost with New England independent voters.
We're talking a big Hail Mary play, but exactly the kind of thing McCain needs to try if he expects any chance at winning the nomination.
Actually, that's an astute observation and might be what the republicans need to shake up an otherwise lackluster field of candidates.
(Not that the democrats haven't yet again managed to do even worse with their candidates.)
However, at this very moment, HRC operatives are scouring the Hanoi Hilton for any scratchings left on the wall by McCain in a plan to expose his time as a POW as a prop to be used in a later run by him for the presidency. No stone will be left unturned.
you're giving McCain an "off-chance"? That's a pretty generous assumption in my opinion.
Interesting hypothesis. Of course, McCain won't win the nomination.
Such a ticket might appeal to a small “l”, pro-GWOT voter like you or me.
But the Social Cons who are throwing a hissy fit over a potential Rudy nomination would surely blow a gasket over that one. And ditto, I suspect, for the pro 2A gun nuts.
For both camps, it would be would be extremely scary to have one of the most consistently liberal voting senators in recent history a mere 0.0001 heartbeat away from the presidency.

Oh, and don't forget--he's a jooooooo! That would send the Far Left into apoplectic fits.
"Oh, and don't forget--he's a jooooooo! That would send the Far Left into apoplectic fits."
Which almost makes it worthwhile.
And McCain + Lieberman is better than Hillary because...?
Well, perhaps BOTH of them have sworn on a stack of Bibles (Toras in case of Joe) NOT to try and nationalize healthcare. That would be a point in their favor. But I am not holding my breath.
Stephen,
There's not a candidate in the running, Donk or Repub, who would not be a disgrace as President.
Of course this opinion is from a voter who did "W" twice and would do so again against this field of "expletive deleteds".
Too bad the FL Governer's last name is Bush.
Oh, and for the record, I am almost one of those pro Second Amendment gun nuts I mentioned above. In most elections prior to 9/11/2001, gun rights were often my #1 deciding issue. Now, it’s more like priority 1b.
When it comes to protecting or strengthening our right to keep and bear arms, I trust Rudy’s word almost as much as I trust McCain’s. Neither one at 100%, but both are close.
McCain is so fricken chaotic that I’m afraid to predict where he’ll come out on any particular topic at any given time. I think Rudy is much more stable, and a commitment from him to a 100 % pro 2A position would be something like a 20-30 degree shift from his past positions. In other words, not that big of a change.
For most of his life, Rudy actually was a “law and order” guy. He didn’t just play one on TV. (OK, that was cheap shot. Giuliani/Thompson is actually my preferred ticket at this point)
But a pro Second Amendment stance by Lieberman would be almost a 180 degree shift from his past voting record. Not impossible, but a major stretch. Definitely trendy, but possibly fleeting. I’m not sure I’d buy it.
