There's this:
Without debate, the House voted 196-173 to kill the proposal to censure Stark for "his despicable conduct." The vote was mostly along party lines, with all 168 Republicans on hand supporting the measure offered by Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio. Five Democrats joined them.
But then there's this:
Democratic Rep. Fortney "Pete" Stark of California apologized Tuesday for comments he made last week suggesting President Bush was sending troops to Iraq to get their "heads blown off for his amusement."
All in all, I'd chalk it up as a minor win. Note also that Stark is 75, and simply can't serve that much longer. I'd just rather he spend his dotage somewhere other than in Congress.
Stephen, you said
Note also that Stark is 75, and simply can't serve that much longer.
Well, Robert Byrd is about to turn 90, and Ted "Bridge" Stevens is 84.
I'm not expecting that lackwit Stark to go anywhere very soon.
It shouldn't have taken a resolution censuring Stark to get the liberal-progressive loudmouth to apologize.
I'm honestly surprised that 5 Democrats crossed party lines to vote with the Republicans.
Stark is just a reminder that we keep electing our village idiots to congress.
What a poltroon!
Either he feels that way and doesn't have the grapes to do anything concrete about it or more likely it's yet another example of Democratic demagoguery gone wild. I wonder how his remarks translated into Arabic?
