Randi Rhodes: Unmugged
Posted by Stephen Green · 16 October 2007
But still, possibly, toothless: A police source said Rhodes never filed a report and never claimed to be the victim of a mugging. Cops from Manhattan's 17th Precinct called her attorney, who told them Rhodes was not a victim of a crime, the source said. If you're one of those people who immediately accused right-wingers of having attacked Ms. Rhodes, I'll wait here for your apology. (Hat tip, Jeremy Gilby.)

I thought Randy Rhodes died in a plane accident at Ozzy Osbourne's home about twenty years ago. Glad to see I'm wrong, he is an awesome guitarist. Been kinda quiet lately, though. Posted by: Patrick at October 16, 2007 12:11 PMWhy should we apologize? You still said what you said and did so under the belief that she had been mugged. Posted by: Steve Balboni at October 16, 2007 02:07 PMYes, and I'd rather she'd have been not mugged - via self-defense, if necessary. I can't say what your position is on gun control, but I'm pretty sure I know Randi's. Was I tasteless? Yep, there's no denying it. But as recent crime trends in the UK have shown, easy targets for criminals are, well, easy targets for criminals. Advertising the fact makes an easy target even easier to find. For that, there's no need for me to apologize. If you don't like the timing, then maybe blog-reading isn't for you. We react to news, we don't create it. Posted by: Stephen Green at October 16, 2007 02:13 PMRandi, I don't listen to your mindless drivel, but I'm sorry about your teeth. Get well soon. Posted by: Jim at October 16, 2007 02:37 PMTo point out, as I did, that "when you work at Air America" you're likely to be unarmed isn't just funny, it's true. It's also crimebait. I'm of the opinion, however, that it's better when the victim has the chance to turn the tables on the attacker. I'm funny that way, too. But I swear, the next time Rhodes isn't attacked, I'll keep the bad gags to myself. In the meantime, just breathe a sigh of relief that Randi wasn't attacked by anything worse than an off-the-cuff blogger. Posted by: Stephen Green at October 16, 2007 02:54 PMSteve, the "Correction" was the funniest damned thing I've read all day. A work of art, in fact. Posted by: zombyboy at October 16, 2007 03:11 PMIf you're one of those people who immediately accused right-wingers of having attacked Ms. Rhodes, I'll wait here for your apology. Stand still. I'm aiming the stream of piss right at that doughy face... Posted by: dave at October 16, 2007 03:12 PMIf you're one of those people who immediately accused right-wingers of having attacked Ms. Rhodes, I'll wait here for your apology. Does that mean you're going to make an apology to unarmed victims? Posted by: Lesly at October 16, 2007 04:51 PMSadly, no. Posted by: Stephen Green at October 16, 2007 04:59 PMSadly, no. Because... they... didn't give themselves "the chance to turn the tables on the attacker"? Posted by: Lesly at October 16, 2007 05:12 PMNo, because there was no insult. Judging by the comments here, I think the outpouring of anger is due to the discovery that Ms Rhodes wasn't actually a victim of anything other than a little common klutziness. There goes half of her standing as a good liberal. I do, however, wish her a full and speedy recovery. Her listeners, I'm afraid, have less hope. Posted by: Stephen Green at October 16, 2007 05:20 PMNo, because there was no insult. Honey, honesty isn't cruel all by itself. Posted by: Lesly at October 16, 2007 05:26 PMAnyone who thinks that certainly hasn't been mugged by reality. What's the definition again of a conservative? Ah, yes -- "a liberal mugged by reality." Posted by: Stephen Green at October 16, 2007 05:29 PMAnyone who thinks that certainly hasn't been mugged by reality. Well, you know, that might be the case. I mean after all, what's wrong with an argument from ignorance? Posted by: Lesly at October 16, 2007 05:35 PMAnd what was Kos's first reaction to real-life actual victims of violent, degrading and deadly assault? "Screw them." I think "arm them" is still the better response. But what do I know? I still think the obvious ridiculousness of a gag about criminals stalking unarmed (and unlistened-to) radio personalities was kinda funny. And the hateful responses it generated? Funnier still. Posted by: Stephen Green at October 16, 2007 06:19 PMAnd what was Kos's first reaction to real-life actual victims of violent, degrading and deadly assault? You make it sound as if you weren't talking about real-life actual unarmed victims when the "story" broke. What's wrong with thousands of crime bait victims all of a sudden? If you say it was a joke, fine. Humor isn't zoned. Posted by: Lesly at October 16, 2007 07:03 PMIf Letterman did a "Top Ten Words That Almost Rhyme With Dreary," then "Lesly" would come in around #4. Bored now. May I play with the puppy? Posted by: Stephen Green at October 16, 2007 07:18 PMOy vey. If that pun came close to funny I might not think I'm getting to you. Bored now. May I play with the puppy? You always could, dear. Simply stop trying to have the last word in this terribly boring conversation again. Posted by: Lesly at October 16, 2007 07:42 PMPlease take the last comment, I'm begging you. Because as my grandfather would have said at this point, "She's a woman of few words -- but, dear God, the turnover!" Posted by: Stephen Green at October 16, 2007 07:54 PMI was going to take the last word, but, damnit, I seem to have left it in my other pants. Posted by: zombyboy at October 16, 2007 10:25 PMSimply stop trying to have the last word ...on your own blog. Posted by: -Ed. at October 17, 2007 05:07 PMWell, at least she's also no fashion victim. Posted by: Stephen Green at October 17, 2007 05:13 PM |
