Woke up Friday and coughed up an entire mouthful of pencil erasers. The cold I thought I'd fought off twice already came back with a vengeance. But I've found a way to put my foul mood to good use: Liveblogging tonight's Oscars. The fun starts tonight at 8 Eastern, with The Manolo, Jeff Goldstein, both Gay Patriots, Andrew Leigh, Roger L. Simon, and myself. Comments
And, like much of the rest of America, I shall spend tonight watching the shows I DVRed during the week and haven't had time to watch, notably, the entire Friday night line-up of SciFi, the best night of television EVER produced. I call it SciFri. And it goes well with martinis. Posted by: William Young at March 5, 2006 03:54 PMI wasn't planning to watch, but Roger asked so nicely. Melissa told me, "You'd better be funny, because you're making me wait for Galactica until tomorrow." Posted by: Stephen Green at March 5, 2006 03:58 PMCou;dn't PAY me to watch the Oscars. We'll be doing what we do nearly every night, half-listening to Fox News while cruising the 'Net, and taking a break at 9-ish to watch a few hours of DVD. (Lately, ST-Voyager). BTW, Steve... that "coughed up an entire mouthful of pencil erasers" phrase has left me with an unfortunate mental image. A case of "Too Much Information"... :) What with Transamerica and Bareback Mountain, I'm not looking forward to the big production number... Posted by: richard mcenroe at March 5, 2006 05:47 PMThere's some kind of horrible illness going around. I just can't shake it. My favorite was the time I coughed up something that looked like peanut butter. Posted by: Greg at March 5, 2006 06:16 PMI read your post on the liveblog about the shorts. You can actually get them all at the iTunes media store, if you really wanna see them Posted by: Obi-Wandreas, the Funky Viking at March 5, 2006 06:52 PMYou guys are doing a good job, Vodka, you've got me giggling. I'm watching Return of the King, but I'm into B5 on DVD at this point in time. Speaking of Sci-Fi, did I dream an ad about Dr. Who not last Fri during BG but the week before? Posted by: Sandy P. at March 5, 2006 07:34 PMAhhh, 3/17 8 pm 2 hours. Jellybabies are bloody awful. But I'm looking forward to the upgraded Daleks. Posted by: Sandy P. at March 5, 2006 07:41 PM--I love Sam Jackson, but hate it when Hollywood jerks itself off. Bo-ring.-- They're always jerking themselves off. Posted by: Sandy P. at March 5, 2006 07:44 PMFor me, it's like a trainwreck. You want to look away, but it's so horrible you have to watch. Plus, I wanted to see John Stewert...unforunately, he sucked (except for a few moments). Posted by: Marcvs at March 5, 2006 09:33 PMWhen I first got this cold it didn't seem so bad. I've felt much worse. But it just hangs on. I have coughed so much and so powerfully that my 6-pack is back. My abs are no longer sore, and coughing is just another variety of exercise, and i've lost five pounds. Yesterday I had to turn my class over to my students and hang around outside hacking my guts up. If it wasn't interfering with my cardo, this could almost be considered beneficial. Posted by: Bruce Dearborn Walker at March 5, 2006 09:42 PMStewart was at his best when he was poking fun at the Hollywood establishment for its endless self-congratulation. My favorite line - "Coming up later in the show - a salute to montages!". Pencil erasers...eewww. What is with this cough going around? My husband's had it for over a month now, and I'm just getting over a week of coughing. Yuck. Posted by: FL Mom at March 6, 2006 09:12 AMOne doesn’t have to be a card-carrying right-winger to become nauseated at the sight of Hollywood congratulating itself for being better than the rest of us Americans by making movies that promote their pet political causes. When the Academy nominates a movie that is sympathetic to those who support the Iraq war, or one that perhaps suggests that Bill Cosby may not be wrong, then George Clooney and his buddies can pat themselves on the back for being a swell bunch of open-minded fellows. Posted by: JimD at March 6, 2006 12:10 PMThe PJM Oscar thing sucked all kinds of ass. Congratulations upon associating yourself with that brigade of losers.
