VodkaPundit's unofficial Eastern European correspondent emailed yesterday. After the Cartoon Riots broke out in Syria and elsewhere, his fellow American expats shouted:

"Fucking Bush!"

This [event] was the closest I have come to challenging this festering Bush hatred that is so prevalent in the Peace Corps, volunteers to administration to country nationals, in a public way. I managed to keep my mouth shut in group situations but did confront some individuals with a challenge to explain what the fuck Bush has to do with a goddamn bunch of nuts calling for all but the total dismantling of Denmark over a silly-assed bunch of drawings.

At one point, while some were trying desperately to understand why a paper would publish such horrifying images, I just said "Piss Christ". Unfortunately, or fortunately I guess, several didn't get the reference and I had to explain. By using that example, some were able to finally understand the real issue of freedom of expression since of course they only ridicule even a peaceful protest by ignorant Christians angry at such a thing.

Today I am feeling and sharing the fury you showed in your post. And my anger is almost as strongly directed towards the leftists that have abandoned their principles for the sake of political expediency as it is for the idiots who are attacking embassies because they got their feelings hurt. When Sharia comes, my left-wing gay, female, Jewish, Buddhist and whoever-the-fuck-else-Islamists-hate-friends will have to deal with the reality of the culture they are so fiercely defending. As an agnostic I will at least have the option of converting and being a relatively full-fledged human being.

My greatest fear is that there will not be a defining moment where people finally understand what we are facing, and that this will all continue to drive our liberal societies to continue to accommodate -until we have no society left to defend.

We surely have stepped through the looking glass.

Sigh. I hope he isn't right - but I'm afraid he might be.

NOTE: I left out the first part of the email and changed exactly one word, to protect the identity of our friend Over There.

I love it. Europe publishes a cartoon of Mohammed and Bush is attacked. In retaliation, Muslim cartoonist caricature Jews. If this is not indicative of what we are dealing with, I don’t know what is.

Is the depiction of Allah or Mohammed by a mere periodical more or less insulting than a major national leader saying the Holocaust never occurred? Or, to elect a government that is sworn to destroy another nation? Show me the sensitivity.

"And my anger is almost as strongly directed towards the leftists that have abandoned their principles for the sake of political expediency as it is for the idiots who are attacking embassies because they got their feelings hurt."

You got that right. And add our MSM to that list too.

Last night I sat down and watched a TV network news program, NBC. Watching TV news, other than the occassional local news is something that I haven't done in a long time.

The coverage of the 'cartoon riots' was unbelievably bad. Then to make it even worse, the network news never touched on any part of how this whole mess was fomented by radical muslim clerics in Denmark who sent the cartoons, with three others that were never published and were the most offensive to their Arab brethren last October. Nor did they question why it took this long for the so called outrage to develop and then conveniently explode overnight. They reported the burnings of embassies in Syria and Iran as spontaneous outbursts of popular rage, with a straight face and never once noted that in both countries, such demonstrations are inconcievable without government sanctioning.

Then finally, they trotted some talking head out to explain that this was a manifestation of pent up muslim rage about , wait for it.... Afghanistan and Iraq. So you see, it's all Bush's fault!

Truely there is nothing that the left/MSM can't and won't turn into partisan hit piece. They are our enemy's greatest ally and most effective weapon.

Are the anchor women who refuse to show the cartoons going to cover their hair, or are they going to keep walking around looking like harlots? How far for sensitivity?

Man, that is about as on the money as anything I've read on this ridiculous issue.

to bastardize a line from the 30's:
Europa Erwache!

They better pull their coll. head of of their coll. ass or those "alternative lifestylers" are gonna have hell to pay as part of Eurabia.

They think the Vatican is bad?????

Just wait......... just wait.

I opt to go down violently rather than sheepily, if it comes to that.

This is precisely the time when Western media should be going out of their way to carry these cartoons. This is their chance to show their commitment to freedom of the press by exercising it when there's an actual possibility of a serious downside. The media's professed dedication to freedom of expression rings hollow if they cave in when the pressure's on. In addition, this would be a chance for the media to regain alot of good will with the general public.

An interesting comparison can be made to the liberals in Iran who supported the mullahs, because anything was better than the Shah; only to find out that when you dance with snakes they both bite just as hard.

On the bright side, the Islamic mockers have been mocking Christianity and Judaism for decades. They have no new literary weapons available. And now everyone will be aware of their "sensitivity to other cultures".

"As an agnostic I will at least have the option of converting and being a relatively full-fledged human being."

Uh "relatively full-fledged"? Even that could be difficult to achieve in a culture that sanctions murder over an instance of "shame", no?

And, for the record, I was pleased to see Fox News last night showed the cartoon of Mohemmed the bomb head. At least ONE major media outlet seems to have some balls.
