Stephen, have you ever thought about doing a podcast? You know the winter nights are getting longer and Stephen Green coming through the speakerboxes while you drink a glas of vodka and smoke a cigar sounds very appealing. Think about it.

I'm thinking about getting a bunch of alumni together and sue for defamation of character.

I am an alumnus (1975) and I doubt that I'll be seeing it; it doesn't sound at all good.

The alumni association sent us email describing what happened from their point of view. Short summary: they had accuracy concerns, and the filmmakers weren't interested in any input.

I think I'd rather watch "Navy Blue and Gold" again, trite as it is, than see this new one.

Hey, it worked for _An Officer and a Gentleman_ a few years back, and they're gunning (excuse the pun) for the same audience.

I was never in the navy, but I do know a bit about the director (Justin Lin), and your comments don't surpise me in the least.

Lin's first movie was called "Better Luck Tomorrow" and it was loosely based on an actual murder commited by a wannabe gang of mostly honors students at Sunny Hills High School in Orange County, CA (I am an alumni).

The story was a strange one -- the ringleader was, by all accounts, completely deranged and living in a fantasy world. He convinced his "crew" to help him murder another kid who he had become convinced was a narc out to turn him in (he wasn't). His crew went along with this madness and their alibi fell apart in less than four days. Shortly after the ringleader was indicted, he was accepted to Stanfard -- or Harvard, I forget.

This had the making of a very insightful story about our culture's fascination with violence and the sucess at all costs attitude bred at elite schools. But from the interviews of Tan I read the only thing he got out of the story was the same tired old "suburbia is evil" trope we've seen a million times already, so I skipped out. Tweaking the truth in a film is pretty much expected, but tweaking it to make the story LESS interesting is ridiculous.

It can't be as bad as 'Alexander.'

Had a few pops the other night and stopped on this movie to avoid watching my wife's favorite, 'The Bachelor.'

Shoulda gone with gay PAreeh and all the hot chix.
