World, meet Preston Davis Green.

Seven pounds, ten ounces, and in perfect health. You can click on his oh-so-adorable! picture for the full-size version. Bigger than life, depending on your monitor.

Given Melissa's and my genes, the question wasn't if he would be born with hair. The question was: How would he have it styled?

And he sleeps like a baby.

Steven and Melissa,

Congrats from Longmont! He's adorable.

from a long-time reader below you in New Mexico.

P.S. I've got 6 books on pediatric sleep if you should ever need them. Bottom line: after 6 weeks baby must fall asleep on its own. No nursing, no rocking, no touching. Do all that 1 hour before bed.

Steve:
Lucky aren't we?

Mine is eight.

Ain't life a kick?

Congratulations.

As my brother said after his son was born. With a girl, you have to worry about all those little penises out there. But with a boy, you just have to worry about one little penis.

Much less stressful (they say).

I look forward to reading about what this little one does to rebel, when the time comes.

My guess is a brief flirtation with the Democratic Party before deciding upon unswerving loyalty to a brand of vodka despised by his father.

From 'Lost in Translation':

Bob: It gets a whole lot more complicated when you have kids. The most terrifying day of your life is the day the first one is born.....Your life, as you know it... is gone. Never to return. But they learn how to walk, and they learn how to talk... and you want to be with them. And they turn out to be the most delightful people you will ever meet in your life.

How true.

Posted by: Sarah at December 29, 2005 08:38 AM

He seems to have the sensible hair style- just long enough to be there and show as a clearly non-crewcut look, but just rumpled enough for that irresistible casual look. A lot of Hollywood types (God forbid, Preston) affect that in a more intended way.

Actually, his hairstyle appears to be an improvement over Stephen's (not Melissa's).

A poem for your new boy-child, by Tom Hendrix:

-- Tomorrow's Captains --

Matchbox sailboats
and
spring ponds.
They can take you
around the world,
scare sea monsters
off lily pads,
and shoot down
dragonflies.
With captains
dressed in tennis shoes,
baseball caps,
and a pocketful of today,
for
who would go to sea
without a yo-yo?
Some go crashing
into cattails,
or sink beyond the reach
of rolled cuffs,
and drop anchor with
“Supper’s ready!”

Good work, you two :D

We look forward to the middle of the night blogging when you're getting up for feedings.

Don't listen to 'Charlie'. You can't spoil a baby. We spoiled our son rotten with regards to going to sleep - rocked him to sleep, got up every two hours to feed him until he was 8 months old (and every hour during growth spurts), etc. He's three now, and with the very occasional bad night (maybe once every few weeks) he lays right down and goes to sleep when it's bedtime. With a little warning that it's coming, he even announces that it's naptime/bedtime, collects his hugs and kisses, and puts himself to bed. If you make a baby feel insecure and unloved in his bed, he won't want to go there.

Babies sleep all the time right after they're born and still in the hospital. In fact, you usually have to wake them up to feed them. But, once you get them home, they _really_ wakeup. You'll see. ;-)

BTW, I have four teenaged boys. HELP! Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. ;) Take lots of pictures, Steve. They grow up way too fast. Well, until they're teenagers, and then they don't grow up fast enough. LOL

Both my boys were born fully haired, and it made life easier for them as even more than the usual coterie found them extremely cute.

But, I'd be happy even if they looked like Kojak. Best wishes for you three in this grand new adventure.

Congratulations to both of you! And given that VodkaTot® looks like he managed to have a highball in utero, the blood (alcohol?) line seems secure. My niece is 18 months, has a 90-second attention span, and was a blast to be around.

Good luck, and have fun!

Sweet joy befall thee!

A little Blake for you...

Stephen,

Congratulations. As a father of a 2 year old boy and a 3 year old girl, I know the joys that await you. I can only smile just thinking about them, the first sounds, the first interaction, the crawling and on and on it goes. As good as you think it is going to be, it's better.

Again, congratulations.

Congrats! I'm sitting here with my 3 month old as I type this. He has just started sleeping 6 hours at a stretch.

Don't let anyone tell you a baby has to be sleeping through the night at 6 weeks. Your baby will tell you what he needs and wants. You can't spoil them at this age.

Best wishes,

Kim

God's blessings to all of you! I hope and pray that this is only the first of many VodkaTots to come. Mine are 16 & 13, and my wife and I cannot imagine our lives without the joy and fullness that they have brought.

A word of advice that my brother gave me when my first was born: "Prepare to move to the bottom of the list of priorities, just behind the dog!" At least for a while!;)

Nicely done!

RE: Awfully Quiet Around Here

Are we enjoying the party yet?

Don't worry. Just hang in there. It gets better all the time. It's especially good at 3 years.

Prayer helps a LOT if you feel yourself getting frazzled or stretched too 'thin'.

Happy New Years! You'll probably be up SOMETIME during the night.

Chuck(le)

Congrats! Alas, they grow up so fast. Not that 6 mos is bad or 3 yrs, or 18 yrs for that matter, but once a stage is gone, it's gone for good and you'll miss it. My advice: Don't blink.

RE: Amen

"Say goodbye to sleep!" -- Matt B

At least for the next two months.

At three they are (1) sleeping through the night, (2) potty trained and (3) can behave themselves in restaurants.

Happy New Year, everyone.

Regards,

Chuck(le)

Posted by: Chuck Pelto at January 1, 2006 10:17 AM

P.S. As with boys, one friend of mine caveated the joy of having a son with being careful after they are potty trained.

His 3-year old was caught playing fireman from the stairs onto candles on the furniture below....

Beware the sucker baby!

"Sucker Baby": Adorably cute first child who sleeps well, eats well, and fools his/her parents into thinking they are ALL that way, thereby inducing said parents to create more babies...which usually are not sucker babies.

Congratulations and may God bless you, your wife, and that precious little guy! Mine is 12 (but he was not a sucker baby) and it just gets better and better as the years go by.

Hey, congratulations! He's certainly a cutie.

Will he be showing up to get fussed over at RMBBs in future, or will he cede that territory to Satchel Goldstein?

I'd volunteer Cheryl as a babysitter, but we don't live close enough to each other.
