Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Chief Deputy Majority Whip, is the first elected official I can think of to (kind of) endorse an Israeli strike on Iran's nuclear facilities. Here's an extract from a letter he wrote to Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice: A nuclear-capable Iran would be a major step back for security in the Middle East. As you know, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, recently advocated for the complete annihilation of Israel. His radical statements are reprehensible and cause for great concern. I share the belief that, we have a duty to protect our interests and allies in the region from nuclear attack or nuclear terrorism. The whole thing (PDF document) here. Comments
That is my rep here in Richmond, VA. I am so proud....(wiping away a tear). I am counting the seconds until the anti-Semitism of the far left rears its ugly head. A Jew defending the right of Israel to exist will just be too much for them to ignore. Posted by: Nick Bourbaki at December 7, 2005 02:52 PMMakes me wonder if the actual poop will be introduced to the fan sooner rather than later. But won't the MSM coverage be magnifique? The sooner the better. Posted by: THIRDWAVEDAVE at December 7, 2005 04:20 PMSee, Kruschev knew that you can bang your shoe on the table, provided the Other Guy knows you're not batshit insane. If you create any doubt about that, banging your shoe gets you a cruise missile to the head. Posted by: Ian Wood at December 7, 2005 04:28 PMI think it's inevitable that Israel will act to remove this threat. What choice do they really have? No one else is going to do a damn thing of consequence to help them. All the talk in the world isn't going to deter the mullahs. This situation is the entire WOT in a nutshell; you can't reason with fanatics whose ultimate goal is your obliteration. I applaud Mr. Cantor for having the balls to say what needs to be said. Posted by: Mike in Colorado at December 7, 2005 04:40 PMI taught Eric Cantor 10th grade English in Richmond VA and he was a great kid. We have to bomb the Iranian nuke facilities (or give much material support to Israel when it bombs Iran in self defense) or we've lost on a front by not firing a shot. Eric should run for a higher form of leadership in the house. Posted by: Roger Fraley at December 7, 2005 05:24 PMAll the more reason for the USA to be in Iraq. Re-fueling stations for Israeli jets! Maybe Jordan will help this time? Either way, it is going to be one big mess. No wonder the Prez was against the re-appointment of El Baradei as head of the IAEA. The man was most likely on the take, like most UN officials. Thanks to our Democrat Senators, John Bolton's confirmation to the UN was held up during El Baraidi's We need to start a blogswarm to our Congress to demand no more funding of the UN, and no more UN in the US. Posted by: opine6 at December 7, 2005 08:17 PMGlad to see a real man in congress and not just another pussy media-whore who can't get his lips off the media schlong of political correctness. Islam and democracy have never been and cannot ever be compatible. Secular democracy to Islam is worse than Judaism! Tryign to sound cosmopolitan and sophisticated won't impress a muslim. "Including" them in the democratic process is democratic suicide. Need more men like Cantor - men who will outlaw the political murder-cult that Islam is. Deportation is humane. Israel needs to strike, and I hope the Bush Admin doesn't go all PC wimp and deny them re-fueling. Israel will have to refuel twice on that strike. Tankers are too damn vulnerable. Posted by: Mussolini at December 8, 2005 10:51 AMToo bad it isn't possible, with the Iranian facilities spread out all over the country, well underground, and heavily defended, and out of reach of Israeli jets. (And any country who helps is automatically involved in the action/war, so it becomes a regional conflagration unless Iran doesn't try to retaliate. I'm not sure what the solution is. Posted by: Yehudit at December 8, 2005 06:55 PMThe solution cannot be "sit back and wait for the iranians to melt Israel." Posted by: Mussolini at December 9, 2005 06:50 AMHmm, Syria to the left, Iran to the right, what's a soon to be underemployed couple of corps-equivalents to do? oh, bother... Posted by: JSAllison at December 9, 2005 11:38 AM"The solution cannot be "sit back and wait for the iranians to melt Israel." Well, as Yehudit's right, and they'd basically have to nuke the Iranians first [unlikely], perhaps we'll just have to wish for Santa Claus to solve this one.
