John Noonan takes on MoveOn.

Comments

"troops have always been away from their families during holiday seasons"? Obviously John Noonan is getting his talking points straight from Karl Rove. Even Hitler agree to ceasefires during Thanksgiving and Christmas. And whenever a US soldier had a new kid, or the kid was having a birthday, why that guy got sent home too.

rbj - are you trying to be facetious, or are you actually ignorant enough to think that Hitler stopped the war for Christmas and Thanksgiving? (Never mind that Thanksgiving is a uniquely American holiday that the Europeans don't celebrate). Remember reading a little ditty, or seeing a movie, about this little battle in WWII called "The Battle of the Bulge?" That little violent holiday party lasted from December 16, 1944, to January 28, 1945, with no time off for the holidays. Ditto for winter on the Eastern front.

I can't tell if you're trying to be funny or are really that mind numbingly ignorant.

yikes rbj.

Battle of Chosin Reservoir: 26 Nov-13 Dec

Battle of Bastogne: 21-26 Dec

Battle of Quebec: New Year's Eve 1775

Battle of Trenton (Washington Crossing the Deleware): 25-26 Dec 1776

Battle of Dinant: Christmas Day 1944 (three German Panzer divisions attack US 2nd Armor and lose).

Just a few pointers. Didn't even need Karl Rove, just google and wikipedia.

Best Wishes, John

Of course I'm being facetious. Though with some of the moonbats out there I guess it is hard to tell the difference.

Posted by: rbj at November 30, 2005 02:07 PM

rbj, you must feel truly naked at this point. Maybe you'll think twice before manifesting your own version history

I haven't seen the MoveOn spot yet, but I agree that we need to ratchet back the public displays of sadness over our troops gone during the holidays - and I say this as someone whose Marine husband is going to be deployed most of next year, including the holidays. Yes, it will suck, but the enemy needs to know our side has the stomach to finish this thing. (How did families do without their service member for years at a time during WWII?)
It's irresponsible to use sentiment to undercut the war effort, even if it's sincere.
I'm also unimpressed, though, every time I hear someone label liberals as "anti-American". I've got family members and close friends who are very troubled by this war, but they're the same ones who sent my husband loving care packages during his first tour in Iraq, and were there waving the flag when he returned.
Unlike the public sneers that greeted my father when he returned from a tour in Vietnam, no one has ever called my husband a baby-killer. In fact, I've had strangers wish me well, hold my hand and offer prayers of support -and that happened to me more than once in blue-leaning New York City.

In the world of moveon.org...

President: Well, the enemy won't negotiate, won't listen to the UN and won't settle for anything less than our extermination. We're going to have to go to war.

Secty of Defense: It's November.

President: Yes? So?

Secty of Defense: The troops would have to miss Thanksgiving dinner. Maybe even Christmas.

President: Bloody hell. We'd better surrender.

Adam, how dare you deny me my right to my own truth. According to the Left, we all have equally valid truths, so now every one should bow down before me as Napoleon's heir, as he did conquer the world. (Hey, if it works for Dan Rather, I might as well take a shot at it too.)

Posted by: rbj at November 30, 2005 05:40 PM

wow.

He just absolutely pistol-whipped MoveOn.
