Rosa Parks went from being told to sit at the back of the bus, to lying in state at the Capitol Rotunda with full honors.
That's progress.
Al Sharpton (of all people) had a pretty good line. "If Rosa Parks had moved, Condaleeza Rice might be a secretary in a department store in Alabama. Rosa Parks didn't move, and now Condaleeza Rice is Secretary of State of the United States."
We should just ignore the fact that Sharpton and other "African American leaders" denigrate Dr. Rice at almost every turn.
I thought she was "lying in honor" which is different from "lying in state," although I'm not sure what's the difference.
Honored in life, too: she went from the back of the bus to the back of a limousine!
Thats a HORRIBLE statment! Whats wrong with being a secretary in a department store in Alabama? Its a JOB isnt it?
Aaron, there's nothing wrong with it. I think Sharpton's point is that, without Rosa Parks, a brilliant woman like Dr. Rice would not have been able to achieve as much as she has. I think he's right. Being a department store secretary is a perfectly respectable and honest job. Condi has proven, however, that with lots of smarts and a little opportunity, she could go a lot further.
all of which brings the question, how did Al Sharpton get where he is today?
