Maybe The Krauthammer Solution for dropping Harriet Miers is coming to pass:
"People can learn about Harriet Miers through hearings," Bush said, speaking briefly to reporters after a Cabinet meeting, "but we are not going to destroy this business about people being able to walk in the Oval Office and say, 'Mr. President, here's my advice to you, here's what I think is important.' And that's not only important for this president, it's important for future presidents."
Libertarians don't like her, lots of social conservatives don't trust her, and strict constructionists think she's a lightweight. That's an awful lot of Bush supporters (even tepid ones like myself) who would like to see someone - almost anyone - other than Miers appointed to the Court.
How much longer can Bush hold on to her, now that the Senate is playing by Krauthammer's script?
He'll dump her, I'm sure.
I've been saying it for a while - I think she was a fall-gal. She takes all the expected heat from both pissed off ultra-cons and hard-left "deny-the-next-nominee" liberals and gives BOTH left and right a victory when she is withdrawn.
Then, the next (real) nominee doesn't have the automatic denial from the left and will probably be conservative enough to satisfy the right.
Bush knew beyond any shadow of a doubt that the next nominee was going to be denied. We ALL expected it. Do you really think Bush would throw his BEST nominee into the ring just to get denied?
Of course, I could be totally wrong.
Is this evidence that the Senate is playing by Krauthammer's script, or that Bush is playing by it and basically telling the Senate to draw that line in the sand please oh please.
I know that some Senators have said they want some documents, but it sure seems to me like Bush made a bigger deal out of him saying "no" than they did in asking for them.
Rasmussen now has Bush at 41% approval. 59% disapprove.
When Bush was elected, nearly equal amounts strongly approved and strongly disapproved. There are now twice as many people who strongly disapprove (44%) Vs. strongly approve (22%).
This will spell disaster for the GOP, and good freakin’ riddance to all those spin-less republicans who love to spend my money just as much if not more than tax-and-spend liberals.
73% of republicans approve of George W Bush. Hell, I, the most conservative guy you will ever meet, just might answer “strongly disapprove” is Scott Rasmussen called me today.
Hell, I just might vote democrat in 2006 to prove a point. I might cheer when democrats take control of the house and senate. I will then work my tail off to win in it back in 2008 for republicans who will not bite than hands that feed them. More like spit in the faces of…
This nonsense has to come to an end.
