The James Cameron Solution
Posted by Stephen Green  ·   5 September 2005

This just in:

Fighters loyal to militant leader Abu Musab Zarqawi asserted control over the key Iraqi border town of Qaim on Monday, killing U.S. collaborators and enforcing strict Islamic law, according to tribal members, officials, residents and others in the town and nearby villages.

Residents said the foreign-led fighters controlled by Zarqawi, a Jordanian, apparently had been exerting authority in the town, within two miles of the Syrian border, since at least the start of the weekend. A sign posted at an entrance to the town declared, "Welcome to the Islamic Republic of Qaim."

I can't be the only one here thinking of that line from "Aliens." You know the one:

I say we nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Funny, I was thinking that Qaim means "Kick me" in Arabic.

This has me scratching my head. Why would they do this? Are they daring us to go get them? Are they hoping to distract us from other targets?

Insurgents cannot hold territory, thats what they should have learned from Falluja. Apparently someone didnt get the memo...

We all want to go there (Nuke'em!) but then we don't and then we do but then we don't. Damn! Good thing I'm not in power!

Posted by: WitNit at September 6, 2005 03:38 AM

If I were the eeevil bushhitlerchimpmonkey I would have let them do exactly what they have done. Let them -all- come in, take a village, set up shop. think they are in control, etc.

Then....carpet bomb.

Problem solved.

/sarcasm off.

not too far off the path, eh?

Posted by: navtechie at September 6, 2005 05:27 AM

Perhaps this was more for propaganda points than to keep the territory. Afterall, many in the MSM will wring all they can out of this as yet more proof of the futility of our endeavour.

Posted by: Tim P at September 6, 2005 07:37 AM

At least one conservative commentator/blogger finally makes it clear that all the concern for the suffering of Iraqi citizens under Saddam was just dishonest propaganda.

Posted by: Geek, Esq. at September 6, 2005 08:16 AM

You actually think he was serious about nuking the place?

That said, I'm curious about how long it will take before this "Islamic Republic" becomes an ex-republic. My money is on a week.

Posted by: Alex Sloat at September 6, 2005 08:23 AM

Geek, where have you been? I haven't seen your brilliant parodies of those pathetic little moonbat trolls in weeks!

Thank god you're back. Hope everything's ok.

Posted by: byrd at September 6, 2005 09:16 AM

Well, yeah, except please note apparently there's a couple of halfway decent Iraqis who are trying to move their country forward in Qaim (because we're hearing Zarqawi's men keep publicly executing 'em). So please let's spare them some compassion. I _wish_ the Islamists would set up a city full of just them that we could then bomb the living sh*t out of, though....

Posted by: Sanjay Krishnaswamy at September 6, 2005 12:54 PM

Whoa whoa whoa...this place has a substantial dollar value attached to it.

Heh...they can bill me!

God I love that movie.

"Insurgents cannot hold territory, thats what they should have learned from Falluja. Apparently someone didnt get the memo... "

Sorry, that's my bad. I guess I put the wrong cover sheet on the TPS reports...

Insurgents who hold territory are no longer designated "insurgents".
Once insurgents hold real estate, they become "targets".

I really cant make sense of this. The only thing that makes sense to me is that they are so threatened by the Iraqi public dropping a dime on them that they have effectively run out of sanctuary and are now required to carve out their own sanctuary. By announcing their presence, they hope to get the word out to their confederates where to go to find "all the other guys from jihad camp". Im struck by the fact that these guys are mostly foreigners to the Iraqis. My guess is that perhaps they have worn out their welcome.

The result of this - ahem - strategy is we will drop a set of roadblocks, put some full time aircover in the form of predator drones, watch for a day or two, then move in to the city block by block. The result is a forgone conclusion.

I think we can call this the "roach motel" strategy. We allow the Jihadi cockroaches easy access to the roach motel and once we determine that its full, we toss the whole thing in the trash.

"all the other guys from jihad camp" LOL!

THIS ONE TIME ... AT JIHAD CAMP.......ACHMED STUCK A DAISY CUTTER UP HIS......
