LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Sony Pictures is negotiating to acquire film rights to the first novel from Richard Clarke, the counterterrorism expert who accused the Bush administration of ignoring the terrorist threat before the Sept. 11 attacks. John Clancy? Comments
Some much for accuracy. Or maybe Tom has a brother we knew nothing about? Posted by: Retread at July 26, 2005 11:58 AMKind of appropriate for a guy that was asleep at the intelligence switch in the '90's. Posted by: Pursuit at July 26, 2005 12:30 PMJohn Clancy, author of such political(ly correct) thrillers as "The UN-Sanctioned Search for Red October", "Imperialist Games", and "Vague and Uncorroborated Danger...that's Being Used as a Smoke Screen to Take the Heat Off of Karl Rove." What's it say on the back? "Dick Durbin gives it two thumbs up!" How about that. Posted by: Dave at July 26, 2005 12:33 PMWell fiction is so much easier to write than an actual intel Posted by: jbrookins at July 26, 2005 01:11 PMDo a double bill with Stone's movie about 9/11 - box office gold! Posted by: Dmac at July 26, 2005 01:19 PMI was going to say The DimSum of All Fears but I thought there might be Does anyone know if the Tshirts run large? Posted by: buddyhackett at July 26, 2005 01:21 PMThey'll change the Muslim Extremists to Nazis again. Posted by: Jaybird at July 26, 2005 01:52 PMHere's John Clancy's author link: http://www.addall.com/author/2021471-1 With action like Clancy usually delivers, Clarke's book ought to be a real page-turner. Posted by: tibor at July 26, 2005 02:55 PMAt first I thought the Hollywood Distorter (as we former entertaintment-journalism types have oft-times heard it called) was getting Tom Clancy confused with a member of Irish band the Clancy Brothers, but they have a Tom Clancy too. Ordinarily, I'd try to write something funny, but there's no topping Dave's posting above. Nice one. Posted by: Drew W at July 26, 2005 03:17 PM'Fiction is so much easier to write than actual intel'. There's a difference? In the grunt end of the military, it's widely believed that the motto of G-2 (intel) is "we bet YOUR life". Posted by: ed in texas at July 26, 2005 03:36 PMWould that be Jim Clancy, perhaps? And this is produced by a Lieutenant Calley, is that? Posted by: Crank at July 26, 2005 03:54 PMI just wanted to thank everyone here for being so unbelievably friendly. I thought John Clancy was Ben Affleck's ghost-writer's pseudonym. He's embarrassed to be stepping down from writing porn for Hustler... Posted by: richard mcenroe at July 26, 2005 05:55 PMI hear he's good friends with playwright John Stoppard and Congressman John Tancredo. Posted by: charles austin at July 26, 2005 05:59 PMJohn Clancy = John Kerry's pen name used while wrting a series of political thrillers involving a young Navy Swift boat commander and his involvement in special ops along the Cambodian border. Posted by: Gil Gilliam at July 26, 2005 10:51 PMWhat? Another anti-Bush attack! I know I'm surprised!!! Posted by: Carter Neale at July 27, 2005 02:44 AMRumor is that the film will have an all-star cast, including Bert Pitt, Janine Anniston, Jeff Cusack, Cindy Bullock, and Simon L. Jackson... Posted by: hatless in hattiesburg at July 27, 2005 04:27 AMY'know...I read this yesterday and didn't see what the big deal was. But I was catching up on several days worth of posts so I just write it up as having taken a few too many shots of vodkapunditry. Posted by: greg at July 27, 2005 09:23 AMI guess that the main character will be the center of the universe, who has all the solutions to every problem ever devised by man or nature and rubs evvery person that ever met him the wrong way. I bet he gets mad after 15 years of no one making him the king of the intelligence community and decides to strike out on his own. To demonstrate his high intellect and unique insight, he goes on TV and challenges information that can not be refuted since it would break protocol and classified information rules to respond. All the time he is lurking undercover helping OJ find the real killer. Oh, he wrote that book already "My Sad Life" Posted by: msdl5 at July 27, 2005 02:21 PMThe movie version could star Clancey Brown. Posted by: RandMan at July 27, 2005 02:51 PMTO: Stephen Green You know. Tom's younger and less successful brother. He uses a Windoz platform and has yet to get a book published. Regards, Chuck(le) Posted by: Chuck Pelto at July 27, 2005 06:40 PMThat would be John Clancy of the Downing Street Clancys clan. Editors? We don't need no stinkin' editors. Posted by: lawhawk at July 28, 2005 08:48 AMWhere does John Bigboote fit into all this? Posted by: Dishman at July 29, 2005 08:17 PM |
