Well, now. Isn't this interesting: Who's funding the insurgents in Iraq? The list of suspects is long: ex-Baathists, foreign jihadists, and angry Sunnis, to name a few. Now add to that roster hard-core Euroleftists. Comments
Why am I not surprised? Posted by: Ron at June 24, 2005 05:57 AMHmm. Don't we still have a lot of troops in Europe... Just asking. More seriously, isn't this illegal - even in Europe? They've been doing a decent job of rounding up terrorist cells and tracking down their financing. Posted by: mrsizer at June 24, 2005 06:20 AMIf they are aiding our enemies, those who are killing our soldiers, then they are fair targets for assassination. Posted by: rbj at June 24, 2005 06:27 AMAh, the European Union takes military action. Posted by: ed in texas at June 24, 2005 06:43 AMI bet the far left in the U.S. are also aiding and abetting the "insurgency." Posted by: erp at June 24, 2005 07:00 AMAnd this surprises us, why? Posted by: Tim P at June 24, 2005 07:35 AMHey, are you questioning their patriotism?! It seems to me they are quite patriotic (to Al Qaeda, perhaps...) Posted by: Major John at June 24, 2005 09:07 AMI would hate to see their conference in October hit with an explosion of some sort Posted by: Matt at June 24, 2005 09:07 AMI understand that the euroleft has started a new program call " 10 Euros for Dick Durban" in order to get his campaign war chest built up. Posted by: Patrick J Flynn at June 24, 2005 09:16 AMThing is that the US could engage in asymetrical warfare itself. This is nothing less than defacto aid and comfort to the opfor. The Israelis can give us pointers on the "Dr. Bull treatment". Posted by: sven10077 at June 24, 2005 09:38 AMLast summer's Shia insurgents got paid out of Iran. Different groupings within Iran paid the Badr Brigades (which were originally attached to the Iranian army during the Iran-Iraq war). The Sunnis are financed by rich Saudis and funds left over from the 70+ years of Sunni domination. Posted by: Rob W at June 24, 2005 11:14 AMExactly the kind of thing we should be funding [maybe with reimbursement from some erstwhile allies] and sponsoring. Get them all in one place, id and eliminate after they scurry back to their homes and we track their networks from there. Posted by: Rootless Cosmo at June 24, 2005 11:19 AMI guess the name "Thirty Pieces of Silver" was taken. These guys are, literally, at war with the United States. Ought to be something we can do about them. Posted by: Crank at June 24, 2005 11:40 AMNice try wingnuts, but you and Rove can't distract us from the quaqmire in Iraq, our destroyed economy and the soon-to-be impeached liar-in-chief: http://mattstover.blogspot.com/2005/06/reprinted-without-commentary-from.html Those who are not blinded by Jeebus chickenhaws and the far right message machine should read avove. Posted by: Cain at June 24, 2005 01:18 PMCain, I'm not quite sure, but I am getting the sense you might be a little upset at something. Posted by: Major John at June 24, 2005 01:31 PM"Avove," Cain? And I note that you left the "K" off of "chickenhawks." Did you lend it to Master Byrd? Because that means he still needs two more... Posted by: Jeff G at June 24, 2005 01:37 PMTalk Radio listeners have known this for a long time. It is nice to se the MSM(or at least one member) finally pointing out how JFK was wrong again. No wonder they support Kofi. Posted by: Rod Stanton at June 24, 2005 01:53 PMJeebus chickenhaws That's got a nice ring to it! Be a great nome-de-blog. Posted by: Mr. Bingley at June 24, 2005 02:01 PMI always knew where the extreme left's heart was, but it looks like their balls are starting to follow. First they're funding extremists in Iraq, what next? Would anyone like to put a probability on lefty sponsored domestic terrorism? I'm not one for slipperly slopes, but listening to the rhetoric of leftists out here in San Francisco its hard to ignore. Eventually one of these idiots is going to start taking it seriously enough to become the Left's Timothy McVeigh. We cannot hope that they'll remain lazy for too long. Posted by: TF6S at June 24, 2005 02:39 PM"I'm not quite sure, but I am getting the sense you might be a little upset at something." He's been posting at other blogs. Same thing. Almost as if he wants to divert attention from something or another. Hm. Posted by: Patrick Chester at June 24, 2005 03:03 PMI think that quite a good case could be made for Bush's impeachment, actually. Posted by: Ugh at June 24, 2005 03:08 PMoffering aid and comfort to the car bombers, kidnappers, and snipers trying to destabilize the fledgling Iraq government. Why do they have to use the phrase "aid and comfort"? It's such a gay phrase, and its suggestion of treason is inapplicable. Posted by: jpe at June 24, 2005 03:10 PM"aid and comfort" is an old phrase that goes back to the days when a bedraggled war party would go to a sympathizer for food, bandages and fresh horses. It still applies in the sense that anything that helps them materially to keep fighting is "aid" and comfort comes from the assurance such aid gives that they still have friends and supporters. Posted by: Meezer at June 24, 2005 03:47 PMI still like the phrase "jumpin' jeebus on a pogo stick!" But that's just me. Posted by: N. O'Brain at June 24, 2005 04:56 PMItaly still has troops in Iraq, right? I wonder what their treason laws are like. Posted by: Pixy Misa at June 24, 2005 06:14 PMIt's just what I expect from the Islamic Republic of France. They think they are high and mighty now, give it another couple of years and there will be no France, at least not one that a Frenchman is welcome in. Several other Liberal (stupid) european countries are already in the death throes of losing thir country. Goodie for them. Posted by: scrapiron at June 24, 2005 07:56 PMWould anyone like to put a probability on lefty sponsored domestic terrorism? Guess you've never heard of ELF then? Posted by: Rich at June 24, 2005 09:10 PMI see Ugh's aluminum deflector beanie fell off. Posted by: Robin Roberts at June 24, 2005 11:58 PMIt's time to open up a very big can of whup-ass on our barking moonbat friends on the left. The cowards--they're paying fanatics and depressed and retarded muslims to blow themselves up, to kill civilians and others. Their slimy oily evil is due to come home to them very soon. Posted by: Cane at June 25, 2005 07:16 AMFollow the money. With snipers. Posted by: richard mcenroe at June 25, 2005 02:58 PMoverlord their asses all over again. now that the chunnel's poen, i'm sure that the home army and other territorial forces can occupy paris and brussels in a jiff thanks to the eurostar. leaving from waterloo station no less! its seriously time to start dealing with the fifth columnists. moveon, dean, bartcop, kos, atrios, etc etc etc. them, the french, the commies, the saudies, alf & elf, everyone. if they want war, we can give them war. hell, cain gave us an address just by posting. gotta love reverse dns + physically tied IPs Posted by: hey at June 25, 2005 04:58 PMMr Sizer, Illegal? Don't make me laugh. They probably have a check a box on their tax forms to have money sent directly to the terrorists. Posted by: Brian Macker at June 25, 2005 11:48 PMI can't wait for Europeans to be subject to the dhimmitude they deserve. They've laid down to Fascism, Communism and every failed "ism" that history conjured up including existentialism, nihilism and that self-loathing idiot Derrida of the Deconstructionists, a popular gig on campuses. With one in ten French citizens Muslims and out breeding the natives how long will those nudes in the Louve last as the imams gain power? Good-bye to The Birth of Venus. Good-bye to the French wine industry. It's only a matter of time. Leftists have been growing desperate, since their fall from power in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. Only the hellholes of North Korea and Cuba are still unequicovacably controlled by the left. They miss the power. They'll do anything to get it back. DO NOT advise Europeans regarding how to improve their countries. Agree with them that they are on the right path. That will prove to be the revenge most enjoyable to behold. Posted by: PacRim Jim at June 27, 2005 01:22 AM"Nice try wingnuts, but you and Rove can't distract us from the quaqmire in Iraq, our destroyed economy and the soon-to-be impeached liar-in-chief:" I really gotta be honest with you, Cain -- the world does NOT work like it's shown in the movies. Time for your Valium! Posted by: Sharpshooter at June 27, 2005 01:35 AMpenny: I agree. The looney left are playing with fire. If the Islamo- fascists win, they are in for a shock. It's bad enough that the people they're supporting are murderers of the worst kind. These bigots will destroy everything that they favor: free speech, women's rights, you name it. It's time to admit that Europe is a quagmire. Sixty years of occupation has not given us a stable political situation or a Europe that understands democratic institutions free of corruption. It's time to give up: withdraw all US troops from Europe. Posted by: kevino at June 27, 2005 07:08 AMThe insurgents aren't just killing Americans. They're killing Iraqis too. The European radical left proved its utter moral bankruptcy--and its bloodlust--in the 1970s and 80s. But in case anyone forgot, here they are again to remind us that anti-Americanism is far more important than the peace and well-being of normal Iraqis. Posted by: ak at June 27, 2005 01:03 PMLeftists who control most american universities are also contributing to these causes. The same kind of tenured professor who says "let a million Mogadishus bloom!" and "anyone who bombs the Pentagon gets my vote!" are not going to pass up the opportunity to contribute to vile murderers. I recommend everyone here watch the film Brainwashing 101 at academicbias.com Click here to go directly to the free download. It's worth it by Jehosephat, yes it is. Posted by: Regina at June 27, 2005 04:44 PMkevino I'm finished with all things European. We are from stock that got on the boat and out of there. Younger daughter was in Paris(not my idea) awhile ago and was verbally savaged by some weasel in a bar that overheard her American accent. He got bitchslapped verbally in returned. Sorry she didn't deck him. What has Europe ever given us that we haven't returned in blood to save their pathetic lives? A few generations of EU sheeple under the tyranny of the imams hopefully will end their destiny with Darwin or give them that old time religion they've denied themselves. Their choice. Posted by: penny at June 27, 2005 05:39 PM"...aging, old school fascists..." Anyone else think "Democrat Party" when they read that? Posted by: Hucbald at June 28, 2005 01:56 AMpenny: I know what you mean. I have in-laws that live in England, and I visit from time-to-time. As the resident Yank, I get amBushed by family, friends, and complete strangers. The worst was a member of the British press after my father-in-law's funeral starting to ask questions about US policy. His initial gambit was, "Why do you think that Americans don't listen more to the opinions of Europeans?" I wanted to say something like: . . . [Sorry, had to vent.] Of course, I didn't say anything like that, and I didn't smash his face in. I gently told him he was being rude, "I have come hear to mourn the loss of my father-in-law -- and my friend. I don't think it's appropriate to discuss that subject here." Bottom line: I'm with you. US out of NATO. They can't appease the Islamo-fascists; the fascists will take control of them. Good. Taliban II - Hippy Hell. Posted by: kevino at June 28, 2005 07:11 AMI think there are two things we could do. First, we could send some very rough people to kick ass and take names at that group's offices and/or at one of its gatherings. In the alternative, we could see if law enforcement could monitor their dealings, then seize the funds raised. The Iraqi militants are terrorists and providing financial support for terrorists is illegal in most of the western world. Frankly, I just want these fools killed. Let's raid the group's offices, get their mailing list and finance reports, find out who their contributors and supporters are, and visit some pain on them. Posted by: Hugh at June 28, 2005 08:50 AMI'm shocked, simply shocked, to find leftists here. Posted by: Al Maviva at June 28, 2005 09:42 PMU.S. military dead in Iraq, including suicides: 1,717 U.S. military amputeed, wounded, injured, mentally ill, all now out of Iraq: 41,100 Iraqi civilians dead: 111,700 nice job, idiot republicans! don't let it stop you from blaming a bunch of dorky academics sending a few extra euro cents to iraq Posted by: wingnut fruitcake redneck at June 29, 2005 01:22 AMI love how the leftists support murderers and tyrants. I call the left the political wing of mass murder. They can't help themselves, they love me and my dictator comrades!! Posted by: Saddam at June 29, 2005 05:23 AMI love how the rightists support murderers and tyrants. I call the right the political wing of mass murder. They can't help themselves, they love me and my dictator comrades!! Posted by: Pinochet at June 29, 2005 12:12 PMI would suggest that anyone surprised by this development should make a point of reading the far-left pubs like the Nation. This exact issue came up right about the time of the Iraqi invasion. Don't remember if the author was Katha Pollitt or the other feminist leftist, but the gist of the article was this: "we aren't afraid of American defeat in Iraq, but of American victory, because if the Americans win they establish another bastion of capitalism." Well, that's what is happening, and since these folks never accepted the fact that they LOST the cold war AND the hearts and minds of most of the world's population, they are hanging with ANYONE that they think can help them regain their lost power. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend," so what's the surprise? If you can stomach reading the other side's material (I stopped in 2004 but think I will start again) you can get a pretty good idea of what's making them tick. As to what should be done: the Constitution is pretty clear about what Treason is, and this sure constitutes giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Other posters have made this point better than I. Posted by: OldManDownthe Road at June 29, 2005 12:31 PMThanks, friend troll, for rallying around me. You prove my point that leftists love my ass. Pinochet is a pussy. He only killed a few thousand. I caused over a million to be killed. I murdered young children in front of their parents to get the parents to confess to disloyalty. Then I tortured the miserable traitors until they died. Screw Pinochet and pussies like him! I'm a real brutal killer man, a true friend of leftists! Posted by: Saddam at June 29, 2005 03:57 PM |
