We're almost ready for London, baby.
About half our clothes are organized, the suitcases are out, the house/puppy sitters have notices and instructions posted, the passports are valid, the travel documents are ready...
We haven't forgotten anything, have we?
Well, there is that Anglosphere Blog Bash on Saturday. That sure won't suck.
I'm bringing the laptop this trip, so expect at least some photoblogging while we're gone. Don't, however, expect any Friday Recipes of English food. I'm just sayin' is all.
Five'll get you ten he can't handle the pub closing time. Who's with me?
Perhaps Stephen is unaware of the (American) Gourmet magazine's recent declaration that London is "the gourmet capital of the world." One or two recipes might not go amiss.
But yeah, the closing time's gonna kill him...
Re: Pub closing times: Do what the English do . . . go earlier. Much nicer that way, really, eat dinner at 5-6, head to pub drink till 10, head to chippy. Mmm, good beer (served at room temperature . . . of an island in the North Atlantic), greasy fish and chips . . . . mmmm.
Stephen,
Have a good trip. Congratulate Tony on his re-election for me.
Of course you don't want to do and *English* recipe blogging. Scottish recipes, however, is an entirely different animal. Might I recommend the haggis? I've had it, it's good. Um, just don't offer any to the pregnant bride.
I was going to give you tips on pubs and such, but then remembered that Scott will be there to guide you around. He’s one of those hoopy froods who really knows where his towel is at so you’ll be in good hands.
Stephen and Mel(+1),
I know it's touristy but be sure and check out the London Dungeon. It's pretty cool and quite creepy. It's across the Thames from the Tower of London. Also, be sure to check out the restaurants along the road outside the London Bridge because there are some really good London eateries for a decent price outside the tourist zone. Have a great time - the people there are great!
Mind the gap...
Have a good trip.
Ok - you know you had a good time in London when youve had a good cuban crisis.
Steve, there is an excellent pub right next door to New Scotland Yard. Have the bacon burger.
There used to be a nice pub on Sloane Square, catty-corner from Peter Jones, and another one a few minutes walk up the King's Road... but it's been about twenty years...
I have a flask, and a hotel minibar when that runs out. Who cares what time the stinkin' pubs close?
BTW, after taking in everyone's great advice a while back, on what tiny little Bed & Breakfast we should call our home for two weeks -- well -- Melissa settled on a Hilton.
Still, thanks for all the tips. Maybe next time.
The English do one food that is out of this world: cream cakes. If you can't find a little mom and pop bakery, any Tesco's, Sainsbury's, or Marks and Spencers will have a selection of scones, profiteroles, trifles, and other decadent yummyness.
