RE: Takes Me Back...
Especially the recipes.
However, I have concerns for his veracity....
...he doesn't mention Tabasco. Can he not know about the necter of the gods and still be 'for real'?
Everything, even Boohbah, is better in the field with Tabasco.

P.S. Try Tabasco on your next BLT sandwich; one dash spread over the mayo.
Chuck, the only option for HOT SAUCE in our chow hall and in MREs is Tabasco. Therefore, Tabasco...sucks since you have to add it to everything we eat to give it flavor (that I agree on). Most of us prefer Texas Pete (AKA TP) though. TP is like the best HOT sauce. Oh yeah, you got it, we get so bored over here we have the same arguments about nothing. Thanks for reading my Blog! JP

RE: You Silly Texans
I'm a Louseiana boy.
By the way, buckie....
I was jumping C130s before you learned how to jump a prom date.
But do keep up the good work. Wish I was there myself....

P.S. Too bad you could not experience C-rats. I was known as the gourmet grunt.
Mmmmmm, Ham and Eggs, Chopped. Cold...4-packs of lucky strikes...interdental stimulants...

RE: Yeah...
...my favs were the John Wayne cookies.
Then again there was the turkey-loaf cordon bleu [Note: Please pardon my french.]
1 can turkey loaf
1 can ham slices
1 can cheese
.5 can crackers, crumbled up
1-6 dashes of Tabasco
Served with a fresh canteen of clean (non-halogenized) water
For desert...
Pound cake with peaches, drizzled with chocolate sauce made from the cocoa powder.
Topped off with a canteen cup of ersatz coffee with double cream and a bit of the cocoa powder.

Chuck(le) — I was in just as they were starting to switch over from C's to the first MRE's. Damned things followed me halfway through my reserve obligation, too, so now you know where they went to die.
On the other hand, those little P-38 can openers were lifesavers.

Me too, compadre.
I went into the reserve component in '87. Was assigned to the 1st MTC out of Denver. We planned, coordinated, executed and evaluated exercises for reserve component formations in a 14-state area.
One exercise of a batt of NG from Nebraska at Fort Carson, our team stood down during a lull in the action to have a conference in the field. We huddled the Hummers we'd been given to get about. Opened our rucks and yanked out or Cs (issued back at 1st MTC).
The young kid drivers who'd come with the hummers all looked around in wonder and one of them finally asked, "Sir. What are THOSE?"
We colonels and majors just looked down and shook our heads....
