I must say, I didn't expect this:
BERLIN: Chancellor Gerhard Schröder signaled on Monday that Germany would support Paul Wolfowitz's candidacy to head the World Bank, arguing that the world may be "positively surprised" by the U.S. deputy defense secretary's performance.
President George W. Bush last week put forward Wolfowitz - a principal architect of the Iraq war, which Schröder opposed strongly - as his choice to take over from the World Bank president, James Wolfensohn.
"The American president called me and made the proposal, and I told him that it would not fail because of Germany," Schröder said in an interview with n-tv television. "I even have the impression that we will be positively surprised."
Or maybe Schröder just confused Wolfowitz with Wolf Blitzer.
