Took the new wide angle out to Garden of the Gods around midday today. Would've preferred morning or late afternoon light, but the schedule wouldn't allow it. As always, click the pictures for bigger versions.

As always, here's a bonus puppy picture.
Zat's okay. It clouded up this afternoon anyway.
Gorgeous. There's nothing like the blue of the sky in our wild west.
Did it ever cloud up this afternoon -- glad I didn't rearrange the schedule around the (now gone) sun.
'Had the pleasure of seeing the Garden of The Gods last May. What a great thing to have just outside your door! [One of my sisters lives in Colorado Springs.]
Great shots, I really like the first one.
What awesome rocks. They bring to mind Bryce Canyon and Zion. Thanks for sharing.
We live in such a beautiful area, don't we? I mean, even if that fourth picture does have a giant rock wanky in it.
o how I envy you and your rockin digital camera!
best,
Joel
Man, I wish I were there again. Lived there for four years while stationed at the Mountain. Daughter born there. We left in 1981 and haven't been back. Fortunes of war, I guess. I always wanted to move back, but the family is settled now and won't tolerate a gratuitous move just to please Dad.
Very nice shots. Brings back some memories for me, also. The last I saw the Garden was ca 1970 while stationed up the road at Lowry. I really enjoyed my short time in Colorado - my first real mountains, my first trout (caught at Deckers), and my first taste of Coors.
I need to explore more of my adopted home state. My Grandma lives in Florissant. It is so beautiful up there.
What camera is this again?
I'm holding off, waiting for the DMC-FZ5 to come out next month.
That fourth picture is making me . . . um . . . let's just say it's very evocative.
Great shots Stephen!
Wasn’t that Captain Kirk in the background battling a walking Gila monster?
Those formations actually remind me of the Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada (outside Las Vegas). Similar formations and I encountered similar lighting conditions too.
Very cool pix.
Great pics! We had a picnic there last Sunday. By the way, did you catch that awesome sunset last evening?
Good work! #2 the most interesting, imo. Is that shadow detail straight out of the camera?
Didn't Kirk fight a "Gorn" in that episode of Startrek, or was it really The Goron?
And speaking of wankies, you should see Leslie Gulch in Eastern Oregon:
wanky
The picture shows only a hint of the rampant wankies which rise up majestically round every bend. When I saw the Garden, I immediately thought of the Gulch, which is amazing enough to be considered a wonder, too. A lot of the coloration is the same.
Leslie himself was killed by a bolt of lightening in the Ohyees, named for the Hawaians who came to look for gold there around 1850. It's pretty remote.
Liked the last one best, although your Puppy is no more a "puppy" than my Speckerpuppy is at 10. Doesn't matter to us, though, does it, in spite of the white muzzle? Oh, the landscapes are great. Haven't lived in country like that since I was a kid. Impressive evidence of how small and impermanent we are.
