"Social scientists" are not scientists. Give a scientist a set of facts and they can tell the result 99% precision or better. The exploding crime rate from 1962 - 1983 showed how wrong the sociologists and social psychologists are. The high inflation and high unemployment of the Carter years showed that the Keynesians are all wet.
That is why me degree in Econ is a BA not a BS.
A note for those not familiar with Lord JM Keynes. He said 75 years ago that you could not have high unemployment and high inflation at the same time. The solution to low unemployment was big government. Which would lead to inflation but keep unemployment down. The Brits proved this to be wrong from 1960 - 1980 when they had high inflation and unemployment. Maggie called it "Stagflation"

Sociology classes I took in the early 70s at UNL had already debunked 'rehab'.
The French, if you'll forgive my use of the term, approach of running places like Devil's Island, had been statisically proven to be more effective.
Therefore, I propose that convicted felonious criminals should be made to serve the state in conditions of social depravation, i.e, no television, no computer-internet access, no sex, etc., etc., etc.
Misdemeanors can have PX priveleges.

P.S. As for the illegal combatants? Let them tend pig farms for the rest of their natural lives. And when they die of old age, we feed their carcass to the pigs.

P.P.P.S. There are no such things as minimum security facilities. Everyone is treated same-same. That includes Martha Stewart. She does time with 'Hannibal'. Maybe they can cook-up something 'interesting'.
That'd be pretty lame, Chuck, since Martha didn't actually do anything, y'know, WRONG. You want prisons like that? Better get your laws right first.
This is why it is called the "Criminal Justice System" rather than the "Victim Justice System" The whole system is skewed/flawed.
