Blogs vs the MSM - Another Round, Anyone?
Posted by Stephen Green · 22 February 2005
I'm not sure Ted Rall is the kind of company Steve Lovelady wants to keep: Borg-like, the various right-wing blogs simultaneously discuss the same stories, applying identical rhetoric. They create blacklists and urge their readers and fellow bloggers to threaten and harass their targets. Surfing this cheesy world of flag-draped neo-McCarthyite HTML makes it impossible to deny Columbia Journalism Review writer Steve Lovelady's conclusion that most are "salivating morons" who form an ideological "lynch mob." Worse, many of the right-wing bloggers are flat-out liars. Of course, we're still awaiting the construction of that Afghan oil pipeline to prove Ted Rall is no liar. Comments
I was going to comment, but, sh*t, Jeff Goldstein said everything about the guy that ever needed to be said. -M Posted by: Myopist at February 22, 2005 08:21 PMWhat is going on here? Have these guys just totally lost it? Or have they always been like this, and we mere mortals didn’t have the means to cut through their magical shroud until now? I actually used to respect some of these guys. I listened to what they had to say. Now I feel dumb. It sounds kind of bad, but I hope they have just melted down, and lost it. I don’t want to think that I have been falling for pure bull shit all these years. But it’s beginning to look like I was duped. Nearly every day now, another journalist fails the acid test. Who’s next? I have negative interest in anything that punk has to say. He is a nobody signifying nothing. Posted by: Reid at February 22, 2005 09:46 PMOy vey, my last post does sort of imply that I respected or at least believed Krall. NO! Just unclear writing on my part. I pity the hapless Lovelady. To be championed by the odious Ted Rall is a fate I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Posted by: charlie eklund at February 22, 2005 10:03 PMWell, I for one am virtually salivating: I scent the prey finally close, and feel its cowering, hear its mewing. A killer's instinct is roused within me, demanding a just completion. Lying is irrelevant. It's payback time down on the killing floor - after an appropriate time of toying. A virtual execution is near. I smell blood. Posted by: J. Peden at February 22, 2005 10:07 PM--Borg-like, the various right-wing blogs simultaneously discuss the same stories, applying identical rhetoric.-- I wouldn't call it Borg-like, I'd call it Clinton-like. They were the best on message I've seen in my short 40++ life. Posted by: Sandy P at February 22, 2005 10:08 PMI must confess that I've never read Rall, but I may take him up. He's so nutty, its funny! He's a parody--obvious to everyone but himself. What really got me is when he starts in with some long-ago dispute with Andrew Sullivan. I gave up Sully some time ago [C'mon. Just how many 'Gay Marriage' columns do we really need to read?] But then Rall goes on to imply that Time hiring Sully for a column constitutes evidence of some deep right-wing blogger/MSM conspiracy to deprive the left of their say. This is TIME magazine, fer Chrissakes! Rall isn't nearly Goldstein-funny, and he certainly doesn't mean to be funny, but man...the guy makes me laugh. Posted by: azlibertarian at February 23, 2005 04:12 AM"Borg-like, the various right-wing blogs simultaneously discuss the same stories, applying identical rhetoric." I'd call it media-like. "Gravitas", anyone? I find it odd that Rall considers people of a similiar ideology discussing the news of the day to be comparable to a fictional robotic death machine. Does he consider open dialouge to be a threat to humanity? Is Andrew Sullivan the Picard/Locutus of the blogosphere? Is Wonkette the robotic torso-babe Borg queen? Posted by: Mike M at February 23, 2005 07:27 AMI think of Ted Rall as a toothless chihuahua mauling his target of choice around the ankle... a bit of noise and a lot of slobber, but it's not likely to be painful. Posted by: Sgt. Mom at February 23, 2005 09:32 AMSo, if we are part of the pachouli-reeking masses protesting Bush or shreiking "No War for Oil" from the windows of our SUVs or college students parroting the liberal teachings of our favorite celebreties...THEN we are "free-thinkers"?? How does THAT work? Sgt Mom, I so wish Rall could read that. Posted by: JPS at February 23, 2005 11:13 AMSubstite "Kos" for "right-wing blogs" in Rall's rant and you will be much closer to reality.
