Excellant! As a vet of the real JFK's war I am in complete agreement - except for the guy from Socal that wanted to get to the Pacific to stop the Marines from getting all the credit.

Great! I believe Halsey also said, "Kill Japs. Kill Japs. Kill more Japs."
I've displayed a couple dozen statements (mostly humorous, as opposed to "shocking") from various military sources over at FauxPolitik. These came from an email distribution that my friend, a Navy Commander in the USNR passed along to me.
My favorite: "Ya know, in this Command, if the world were supposed to end tomorrow, it would still happen behind schedule." CWO4 (EUCOM)
Nothing is as funny as the truth.
Both barrels...point blank!! Just the way it should be.
It's what we pay them for, for crying out loud. The media should get over it already.
Deacon - You are right. He did say that as well as some other things that in the last 60 years would have forced the President to relieve him of command.
Maybe these statements offer a clue of why we won WW2?
I believe it to be counter-productive to require a worker to hate his job. Would you ask your bookkeeper to hate numbers? You can have a job for two reasons: a)you love the work or b)big bucks. Sorry, the military doesn't pay that well.
"You can have a job for two reasons: a)you love the work or b)big bucks. Sorry, the military doesn't pay that well."
There's another reason you could take a job: Because dangerous, dirty jobs need to be done and someone needs to do them.
Thankfully America has hundreds of thousands of people willing to offer this sacrifice for their country.

One of my favorite generals, Nathan Bedford Forrest, CSA, said, "War means fightin' and fightin' means killin'." So go for it Gen'l Mattis.
Tom Clancy used that quote from Halsey in "Debt Of Honor." Just a reminder of what a really bad idea it is to piss off the United States of America and the folks who fight in its name.
