Linkfest and Kleenex
Posted by Stephen Green · 21 October 2004
Good news? My Cardinals are going to the World Series. Bad news? I'm sick as a really sick dog with a bad sickness causing him to feel very sick. Actually, just a nasty cold - but light blogging tonight and maybe tomorrow. On the other hand, have you tried Absolut Nyquil yet? Meanwhile, here are a bunch of links to keep you busy until my meds kick in. ˇThe LA Times is misreprenting what Bush said (surprise!) in one of his speeches. ˇThe original home of appeasement is for John Kerry. Go figure. (Hat tip, Daniel Dean.) ˇHey, look -- cool new blog! ˇPunditGuy on Michael Barone on polls on Nyquil. (I might have made up that bit at the end of the sentence.) ˇNot a US citizen? Don't even live here? Still want to vote? No problem. (Courtesy of Eric Shimp.) (Which reminds me -- yeah, Curly was funnier, but Shimp was still a damn fine Stooge.) (Yes, I know it's Shemp. Now leave me alone with my Nyquil.) ˇAll the cool kids love W. Apparently, "the sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wasteoids, dweebies, dickheads -- they all adore him. They think he's a righeous dude." Pretty much everyone but the Debate Club. ˇ"Someone at the Kerry campaign needs to tell Teresa Heinz Kerry to just SHUT UP!" ˇI never had a problem with Richard Holbrooke. Christopher Johnson helps explain why. ˇSpirit of America is still doing great work. Support them. ˇTexas Toast or French Toast? PoliBlogger helps make the call. ˇMarty Beckerman brings a welcome measure of civility back to presidential politics. ˇGayPatriot has an update to yesterday's Log Cabin Republicans scoop. ˇManipulating the elections markets isn't working. ˇIf I'm still bitching about this cold on Monday, please someone remind me that it could be lots worse. Hey, hope you feel better soon. Speaking of Nyquil... that's how I know if I'm really sick. I hate the stuff with a passion, but I know it will make me sleep. (Day-quil is evil and entirely pointless stuff... anyone who takes Day-quil is NOT SICK.) If I am miserable enough to take Nyquil I know for a fact that I'm not just being a whiner and making my family miserable for nothing. At the moment that I pick up the bottle for my next dose, gag, and put it back in the medicine cabinet unopened, I know I'm better again. Posted by: Julie at October 21, 2004 11:08 PMGet well quick. I saw James Carville as a guest with Jay Leno tonight, Elvis Costello as a guest with Jimmie Kimmel. The lesson: It works out to about the same elevation of the human condition for James Carville to sing as for Elvis Costello to give instruction in political theory. Posted by: David March at October 21, 2004 11:51 PMIn re: "Global Vote." Much like the Manchester Guardian letter campaign, the poll this year showing that Kerry wins easily if the vote were worldwide, or the earlier poll showing that the rest of the world prefers a weakly-led America. (And yes, those last two things ARE closely related.) Marty Beckerman is a highly opinionated, foulmouthed, equal opportunity political trashtalker. Steve, grow up. Put the Nyquil away and make yourself a couple of hot toddies. Boil some water, pour it over a shot of brandy, honey and add nutmeg on top. Repeat as necessary. Even if your cold doesn't go away, you won't care. Posted by: AllenS at October 22, 2004 06:24 AMWell I hope we don't all catch it from clicking on this blog..... Posted by: Queenie at October 22, 2004 06:43 AMActually Stephen... I was on the varsity debate team. Although Kerry probably wins on debate form... Bush has him on substance. Debate team for Bush! Posted by: Nick at October 22, 2004 07:25 AMTry a week-long viral bronchial infection that won't go away. I can tell you all kinds of stories about daytime television... Posted by: elgato at October 22, 2004 07:32 AMI prefer some herbal (decaf) tea with the brandy and honey. This way you can use cheap brandy. And take a benadryl too. Guaranteed to let you sleep. Posted by: Robert at October 22, 2004 07:37 AMThe Cardinals upcoming World Series win will be the first of two bitter disappointments for Kerry in a span of less than a week. Posted by: Tim at October 22, 2004 07:40 AMBad news -- the 'Stros stunk it up and aren't going to the World Series... Pls get better quick or stop taking brain numbing medication cum brandy until after you tell us what in the world the all the numbers on the blog on efficient markets mean. I get it that Bush is doing well and has been basically in the same place since last February, but I don't get how these they arrived at these numbers. Posted by: erp at October 22, 2004 07:50 AMIt's clear that leaving Iraq now would result in chaos, instability, and the deaths of tens of thousands of Iraqis. Therefore John Kerry wouldn't do it. Global vote? Global email address harvester would be more appropriate. Any dolt who provides this outfit with a legit email address deserves all the liberal spam he gets. Posted by: freedomdood at October 22, 2004 08:10 AMI know you're sick and all, but to link someone to a site with pictures of Madeleine Albright, before he's had his breakfast? C'mon, dude. Posted by: CroolWurld at October 22, 2004 08:21 AMDamn Freedom-Dude. Thanks for the heads-up after we already got our heads up Global's.......uh, marketing scheme. Posted by: Jim R at October 22, 2004 08:38 AMMy hubby is sick, and so is my accountant. Both men are equally as whiny, so I am getting it from all sides. Now you. Not that I don't want everyone to feel better. But if you "men" would take something (I am pushing the green tea, Zicam and vitamins), then you would feel better!! My recipe for the best way to get rid of the stuffy head syndrome: Hot bath (or shower), followed IMMEDIATELY by a tall glass of your favorite carbonated and caffine-laden beverage with a couple of fingers of bourbon as a chaser (GOOD bourbon). Steam clears the head, caffine and carbonation adds to the effect, bourbon kills whatever lingers. Repeat as needed... Posted by: Becky in Ohio at October 22, 2004 08:53 AMGreat stuff. I read one blogger today who was happy to note that a Nickelodeon kids' poll favored Kerry. I asked him why anyone should care. Oh, and NyQuil is great. I was coming back to the States after a year in Korea, and I wasn't feeling up for the 14 hour flight from Okinawa to Seattle. Half a bottle of NyQuil later, I was sleeping like a baby, and didn't wake up till we were over Washington's coast. Posted by: Ian at October 22, 2004 09:43 AMStephen, I thought that I was the only one that loved Nyquil martinis. I'm a gin guy myself, never mixed it with vodka. I find that if you just substitute Nyquil for vermouth, sticking with your preferred proportions, your troubles just kind of ease away. Kinda like a Flaming Moe, but with less risk of injury. Posted by: Topher at October 22, 2004 10:54 AMHow long before we hear that Teresa marrying Kerry was actually Karl Rove's idea? They think he's a righeous dude.' Pretty much everyone but the Debate Club." I bet Kerry has the French Club and the German Club. Take care, Stephen. Posted by: denise at October 22, 2004 12:30 PMYou're not alone. Just about everybody in the Cardinals territorial area called in "sick" with some kind of hangover, er, cold today. Posted by: Christopher Johnson at October 22, 2004 03:41 PMI recommend rum and roses lime juice--it may not cure your cold but after you drink it, you won't care. By the way, my cold lasted for 15 days so stock up on lots of rum. Posted by: Susan at October 22, 2004 09:59 PMHey, Steve, I just got off the phone with my mom in St. Louis. She's says everybody there is very excited about the Cards. Of course in St. Louis, unlike Boston, excitement doesn't include rioting and killing people. Posted by: Dave Schuler at October 23, 2004 12:18 PMTheresa, please, DON"T SHUT UP!! The more you talk, the better for GW!! Posted by: Carl at October 23, 2004 08:34 PMOops! The big scoop is Security Council members deny meeting Kerry. Posted by: The Lonewacko Blog at October 24, 2004 10:22 PM |
