If You Can't Win, Cheat
Posted by Stephen Green · 20 October 2004
Becky in Ohio points to this story of vote fraud in, uh, Ohio: Thousands of cards mailed by county election boards to newly registered voters in Hamilton County and throughout the state are being returned because the people can't be found. Sure, the dead can dance - but why should we let them vote?
The Lucas County Board of Elections is bracing for a wave of challenges against thousands of registered voters that could keep them from casting ballots in the November presidential election. Comments
Hmmm...the Republican Party Chairman blames it on the Dems. Shocker. Posted by: britton at October 20, 2004 11:29 AMI think the part in this story that REALLY got my goat is that the state Dems called this a "minor error". From a marketing point of view, you do a mass mailing, you get a percentage of returns. That is somewhere between 1-2%. To say that a 4-5% return is a "minor error" is fantasy, not to mention a marketing nightmare... Posted by: Becky in Ohio at October 20, 2004 11:56 AMI think Ed Gillespie's gone over the line this time. Mary Poppins is a Republican, committed to personal responsibility. She makes the children in her charge clean up their room. Fascist. Posted by: CroolWurld at October 20, 2004 12:24 PMI just like "Dead can Dance"! Especially "Into the Labyrinth". "Spiritchaser" is pretty cool for background music of any sort. It's got a fantastic Native American flare. Good to smoke a pipe to...tobacco of course! Becky: I second your comment, and would just like to add the thought that the 4% return rate is even more suspicious considering that this was a list of newly registered voters who (allegedly) submitted their own addresses just recently, and not a house file or rented list that is only updated periodically. The non-deliverables should be practically non-existent for a mailing like this. Posted by: HT at October 20, 2004 12:53 PMMy ex wife and I used to do shockingly intimate things while Dead Can Dance played in the background. I'm sorry, what were we talking about? Posted by: zombyboy at October 20, 2004 01:13 PMWith many Democrats this time out, the "higher truth" includes voter fraud--by any means necessary. This attitude caused me in early voting to do something I have never done before: vote a straight Republican ticket. My bet is that I'm not alone, either. Posted by: jay at October 20, 2004 01:14 PMTo be fair, the Post Office in NC returned my voter registration card as undeliverable this year, even though I voted there last year at the same address. I had to reregister and request a new ballot since I had been automatically removed from the rolls. So, not all of those undeliverables may be fraud. Posted by: Matthew at October 20, 2004 03:48 PMWell, the promo at 5:14 CT for ABC's World News Tonight with Peter Jennings was about disenfranchising the black vote in Ohio, because Kerry needs it desperately. This should be interesting. Posted by: tree hugging sister at October 20, 2004 04:20 PMNote the difference in tone between the rather conservative Cincinnati Enquirer and the liberal Toledo Blade. The Enquirer points out there's a potential fraud problem here. The Blade is concerned about "challenges against thousands of registered voters that could keep them for casting ballots..." Based on the position of both papers, I think we can agree that the majority of these bounced registrations is Democrat. Go figure. Oh, even more amusing... Cuyahoga County (Cleveland and most suburbs) has the highest count of bounced registration cards in the state with over 14,000 returned and the Plain Dealer is silent... Again, go figure. Posted by: Doug Dever at October 20, 2004 08:50 PMOh, I stand corrected... Cuyahoga County, according to the PD, is too stupid to know how to vote: http://www.cleveland.com/newsflash/cleveland/index.ssf?/base/politics-0/1098322140322730.xml&storylist=cleveland Posted by: Doug Dever at October 20, 2004 08:56 PMAccording to the Columbus Dispatch there are now more registered voters in Franklin County than persons over the age of 18. Do the math. Posted by: Robert Schwartz at October 20, 2004 10:02 PMYou know...you just know, that if this race turns out close, we'll spend the NEXT four years hearing about how the Post Office was part of a grand conspiracy against John Kerry. Posted by: Matt at October 20, 2004 10:39 PMWhat, this post wasn't about A-Rod? :) And come on, you're a Cards fan! No NCLS posts? Posted by: John Thacker at October 21, 2004 10:11 AMIf Kerry ekes out a bare win that is tainted by all these reports of attempts at fraud, will his supporters insist that the election results are fake but accurate?
