From Yahoo! News:
LAFAYETTE, La. - A University of Louisiana at Lafayette physics professor was banned from the campus Wednesday and taken to the coroner's office for evaluation after threatening his class, university officials said.
Student Kacie Spears said professor Louis Houston lost control right after class began Wednesday morning and was yelling obscenities.
"Then he told us if we got out of our seats he's gonna kill us. He went on the black board and wrote "911 now", so we were really in fear for our lives," Spears told KATC-TV.
Spears said Houston slapped a student and then told his class he was God.
No big deal - the prof probably just got tenured.

For an autopsy?
"For an autopsy?" after that tirade I would advise it.
I'm guessing... mushrooms?
Remember that did happen in Louisana, my home state!
Methinks maybe the coroner does more than autopsies in Louisiana. Also, in some states the offices of sheriff and coroner are combined, depending on county (or parish) charter.
Sounds like someone went off his lithium. I had a friend in college who would do this -- hated the side effects of the drug -- and this sort of calamity always ensued. He never claimed he was God, though.
No, I think you meant "denied" tenure.
Can't understand why the wire services missed a great headline opportunity. Isnt' this school's mascot the "Ragin' Cajun"?
That's absolutely amazing. I had a teacher slap a student in my class during high school. She too had stopped taking her meds.
Maybe this is the guy Dubya has been listening to when he talks about God and how God has destined him to be President.
"taken to the coroner's office for evaluation after threatening his class"
Perhaps one of the students is a gun owner ;)
Yo, Britton, I think you mean Kerry, not Dubya. After all, which guy pointed out that he was born in the "west wing" of his hospital? ;) Someone's got a destiny complex, but I don't think it's GW. :)
Since the guy thinks he is god, maybe he can help Edwards with his get-the-people-out-of wheelchairs program.
I'd like to hear more about what he was saying. The idea that he was an academic apparently calling for a 9/11 type incident raises a red flag for me. We used to hear about profs saying such things, but in a seemingly sane context. Could this prof be one of those sympathizers who just couldn't take any more congnitive dissonance?
I wanna know!
Wasn't there a story a while back, about an Air Force college graduate writing to a professor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a request for information, and getting back a letter accusing him of being a baby-killer and rapist?
Wonder if this is the same guy who wrote that letter.
