Time's Peter Beinart argues that Howard Dean would have been a better candidate than John Kerry:

Last winter Democratic-primary voters played political consultant. They tried to step inside the minds of swing voters and figure out which Democratic presidential candidate could beat George W. Bush. With an eye cast coldly on November, they rejected the man who had first won their hearts, Howard Dean, and flocked to the more "electable" choice, John Kerry. Among New Hampshire voters who said beating Bush was their biggest concern, Kerry beat Dean by a whopping 52 points.

Democratic voters should stick to their day jobs.

Read the whole thing to find out why.

NOTE: Over a year ago, I said that Dean might be the Democrat's best choice, although for slightly different reasons.

P.S. Love his flip-flop on gun ownership. Now, he says he doesn't own that chicom assault rifle. I guess he's got so many guns than he can't remember WHAT he's got.

Are we sure he isn't a life-time member of the NRA?

It's not Kerry's Chicom assault rifle ... it belongs to the family.

I have said for a long time that Dean was a better candidate than Kerry.

Simply put, you can't beat someting with nothing. Dean had something, and could have credibly challenged Bush. Kerry doesn't have anything going for him. His only selling point is he isn't George Bush

Maybe not this week, but there's still time.

That boy is probably trying to horn in on Barbara to get a line on 08.

37% of Kerry's supporters (last poll I know of) were in favor of winning the war in Iraq.

What percentage of those would be supporting Dean?

As a Republican, I would have LOVED to have Dean be the opponent (and I said so at the time). americans don't like losers, and don't like to lose.

Dean, and Kerry (at this moment) want America to lose in Iraq. Anyone who thinks that is a winning position in a US Presidential election is invited to point out the last time someone got elected President of the US while being in favor of the US losing a fight it is in.

Hey, I just wanted Dean as the Dem candidate because I figured he'd explode. I just didn't think he'd "YEEEEAAARRGGG!" so soon. If only he'd waited....
