Digging Deeper

Jay Caruso looks at the John Kerry campaign and the 527s:

The New York Times hit piece on the Swift Boat Vets and their ‘ties’ to President Bush came off like it was Woodward and Bernstein again, digging through request slips at the Library of Congress. What did they come up with? Look at this graphic for the results. It’s a joke. A total of $225,000 from two men, one of whom, Bob Perry, knows Karl Rove. The other, Harlan Crow, is the trustee of the foundation for President George Bush’s library.

Meanwhile, the “conservative media” has given John Kerry a free pass on the ties he has to the various liberal 527’s that are out pimping his bid for the Presidency by attacking President Bush. Well, I looked into it a little, and used OpenSecrets.org to get some interesting results. . .

Read the whole thing to find out what Jay discovered.

I have been chuckling the past few days listening to the Kerry campaign and the media repeat ad nauseum about the 2 "Rich" republicans from Texas are the chief sponsors of the SBVT.

Funny, didn't George Soros give millions and millions to MoveOn.....and isn't he from Europe???

At least the SBVT sponsors are American.

How fitting.

Speaking of Soros, whaddya bet he's long a lot of crude oil futures and he's at least partially responsible for the slowdown in job growth from rising gasoline prices?

I know it seems a stretch, but not if you're familiar with that market and this Soros character. Anyway, it'd make a heck of a story.

Hmmm.

On http://www.truthlaidbear.com is an excellent analysis of 527 groups. Click on my name to visit.

One conservative group has not been giving John Kerry, Teresa Heinz Kerry and their pet 527s a "free pass": Capital Research Center. Our publications, Organization Trends and Foundation Watch, first exposed and publicized all those connections, which can be examined at the database we maintain on our Web site.

Navtechie,

"Funny, didn't George Soros give millions and millions to MoveOn.....and isn't he from Europe???

George Soros was, in fact, born and raised in Hungary, and did not move to the United States until he was in his mid-twenties. I believe, however, that he is an American citizen, although I have not yet been able to verify this.

I think that his politics are despicable, but the fact that Soros is an immigrant isn't relevant.

Soros, IIRC, has been known to speculate in other countries currencies in the past(such as Malaysia in the early 90's?). Apparently had his speculation come off, Malaysia's currency would have been adversely affected for some time.

Because of so called market manipulations in his countries currency, President Mahatir then severely curtailed foriegn exchange dealings with most Western Countries. Apparently these restrictions have only just been released.

I remember the SE currency meltdown. The primary factor (IIRC) was a radical difference between the domestic interest rate, and the rates for dollar-denominated loans, not Soros and his ilk.

IIRC, Soros lost a lot of money on that mess- by his standards, not mine.

It took 3 degrees of separation to get from SBVT to Bush. Half of the full 6 that supposedly connect everyone on the planet to everyone else! Since Bush wears clothes, and clothes give off fibers, I can prove with only 2 degrees that Bush is responsible for navel lint.

Silicon Valley Jim..

I stand corrected. According to some articles Soros is a naturalized U.S. citizen.

I still don't like him. His funding for groups that sponsor rebellions in other countries (against democratic governments) and his messing around with foreign currencies through leveraged buys in order to influence administrative decisions is evidence of an ego that I do not like.

In the rebuttal of the statements made by George Elliot, in the graph that you linked to, it refers TWICE to "j. G. kerry". It was my understanding that Kerry's middle name starts with an F. Are they referring to the same person?

Posted by: Josh Allan at August 24, 2004 01:08 PM

Sorry about that. After some research, I realized that the j.g. refers to his Junior Grade status and not his name. My bad

One of your commentors discussed George Soros and his market manipulation. Mr. Soros is personally responsible for MANY currency and commodity manipulations in which he has made billions and damaged the United States in the process. BUT .... if you dig too deep here .... you die! He is a man who can raise $15 billion in 15 minutes from POWERFUL friends in Europe and the Middle East and he does not tolerate meddling. His goal is simple, he will turn America into what he and his friends want. You are about to lose your government and unless you have billions of dollars, a secret company on a Caribean island and hundreds of well trained special forces (aka hit men) you can do nothing about it.
