Is John Kerry a master of nuance -- or just a master of blowing the crap out of stuff? Mike Daley forwarded a story from The American Thinker, originally published back in May. I'll give you a few tasty grafs, but you ought to read the whole thing. Lieutenant Thomas W. Wright heard that call sign ["Boston Strangler," Kerry's call] frequently. As OIC (Officer-in-Charge) of PCF-44, he operated with LT (j.g.) Kerry’s 94 Boat on a fairly regular basis. A 1966 graduate of the University of North Carolina’s NROTC program, Wright had served as communications officer aboard the destroyer USS Robert A. Owens before beginning Swift boat training in November 1967. He had already served for eight months with Qui Nhon’s Coastal Division 15 when the monsoon season forced its boats to be shifted to the more protected, and more challenging waters off An Thoi. He decided to extend his tour and follow his disciplined, veteran crew to the new base. As the relatively senior lieutenant there, he was the OTC, or Officer-in-Tactical Command for the majority of the 3-to-6-boat missions. On most of them he commanded 44 Boat. Let me get this straight. Kerry used his authority recklessly, and it cost him his job. Tell me again what his beef is with George W. Bush? Comments
Now, imagine youre a deaniac, you "dated dean but married Kerry". Dean got you excited, made you proud to be a liberal democrat. Dean was the defibulator for the frankenstein heart of the progressive liberal. But Dean-o had to go nutzoid one night on world-wide TV and you began to look over your shoulder and you noticed that all the straight folks looked at Dean the same way that they look at people who go to midnight movies in full "Rocky Horror Picture Show" regalia. You hate Bush so very much and all he stands for, that you just couldnt take the chance that Dr. Dean might not be ready to go all the way this time. You look around and standing in the corner is 6'4" Kerry. Senator - Check So, you love dean, but you just gotta win this one. so you cast for John eFfing Kerry. Dr. Dean of course can't figure out how Time magazine says hes the unbeatable front runner in January, but by feburary, hes toast. Kerry - who everyone dismissed in December, now runs the show. To the Press, i'ts as if its always been that way, but we all know better. We know that had Kerry not played the "hero" card, he'd be in marthas vineyard right now, looking for a tube of SPF 50 to keep that pale eastern skin in its delightful pallor. You, the deaniac sold your soul to a guy who even with the pull of 85% of the media, has never been further than 5% points away from Bush. The most controversial, most hated, incompetant, illiterate President since big tricky dick himself and Kerry cant pull more than a 5% lead. He goes to the convention, shuts down any Bush bashing, puts on a show that looks more like GOP-lite than the party of protest "many voices" that the democrats have become. He gives a speech that invokes militarism, faith, country and family values. You sit in the dark in front of the TV and you wonder " oh dear, what did we do? Now it turns out that the very center of Kerrys campaign is in question. what's worse it appears that Kerry himself has deluded himself into thinking things about his past were really true, even when its clear to everyone that theres no possible way they could be. Now, after all this , When the Kerry campaign tries to get out of the cambodia story by trying to say that he really was in cambodia, just not at the time he said, and that the "magic hat" is from a Navy Seal, and in those days the CIA and the Seals were interchangeable. Advice for the Kerry campaign: The problem with people who are rarely challenged and who have made a habit of stretching the truth is that its never one little untruth, it becomes easy and thus there starts to be a whole web of delusuion. The Deaniacs sold their soul to a man even more insane than the guy they really loved. That has to really sting. I said it earlier and I'll say it again, if Kerry begins to embarrass them, the knives are going to come out. The only way the party can survive is if it makes the loss of this election the fault of a poorly chosen candidate. If the perception becomes that America has rejected the message and demeanor of the Democrats, it will take a generation to undo the damage. My prediction is that we have only begun to see Kerrys delusions be exposed. While I'm not surprised by this due to the early diagnosis of "seantoritis" by Dr. Lileks, theres going to be lots of Deaniacs who will start saying "you lied to me you byzantine stick figure, you said you were a war hero and republicans eat that stuff up, you're just a stiff like the rest of the old democrats"
Frank, I only see an email address. Do you have a blog? If not...why not?? Posted by: Ed Driscoll at August 12, 2004 12:10 AMI'm beginning to wonder if Kerry isn't the cowboy that Bush is supposed to be. Posted by: htom at August 12, 2004 12:42 AMTheres a gap a mile wide between what it takes to write a good comment and what it takes to host a good blog. Many blogs are just poorly made and managed websites and I'd like to avoid joining that community if its something Im going to stick my name on. I've decided the best way to learn how to do it is to watch and learn from blogs that I admire ( Like the good folks here at vodkapundit!) before I go throw a pile of HTML against the wall to see if it sticks. A good blog is like a good host of a party. They bring together people of varying backgrounds and engage them in conversation and observation and work with diligence to get the wall flowers out on the floor as well as keep the drunks from dominating the party. My take on being a blog host is that its harder than it looks. Making comments to the hosts observation is easy, its setting the conversation and the tone in the first place that makes a great blog. I also think the best way to tell a great blog from a good blog is one where the posted entries and the comments run together like a good jazz theme, the host sets the tune and the rest of the band goes where ever the riff takes them. I'm still learning. I'm still facinated by the media, but I dont think I know enough to be able to generate a good party. Posted by: Frank Martin at August 12, 2004 01:27 AMHaving the wordsmithing down is a big part of it, and you've nailed that. There are people who would be honored to help you grow, and some worthy bloggers, notably Bill Whittle, started as commenters. If you want to get your feet wet, drop me a note. I'm paid up thru December for premium service at my old host, and it is past time to free up that space. Posted by: triticale at August 12, 2004 02:52 AMSo he is correct about him being a "war criminal"? Concur Frank; Also, at the time of the Dean melt down, wasn't that when the press was hitting the "Bush AWOL" story pretty hard? Shouldn't *someone* be a little more concerned with these stories? We were concerned whether or not Bush may or may not have showed up to a couple National Guard drills. Isn't it a little more serious when someone who may or may not be a homicidal psychopath is a few percentage points away from the White House? And we're not talking about rumors or random charges. There are the guys who were there and who served with Kerry. His peers. And people with little to gain and a lot to lose by going after a powerful politician with the full weight of the media behind him. Kerry is going to have to do better than lawsuits and glib dismissal to make this go away. Bush released his records and offered explanations for his service. Maybe it's time for Kerry to do the same. (unless the DNC is looking for an excuse to "torch" him and replace him with Dean...here's their issue) Posted by: Mike M at August 12, 2004 07:16 AMThis one's been around a while. I think I read it back in the fall. Maybe spring though. Posted by: aaron at August 12, 2004 07:31 AM
I mean can you even imagine the media's reaction if Bush's call sign was comparable? K Posted by: Ken at August 12, 2004 08:00 AMThe media and the Kerry campaign are doing thier best to dismiss the statements by the swift boat veterans. If the information is so off why are they working so hard? It should be a simple task to clarify the events of the past. I can run through 90 percent of my military service from memory and I can recal all of the time I spent in Iraq. Senator Kerry's peers in Vietnam are in the best position to judge his ability to lead as they witnessed and worked with him in combat. If they feel he is unfit for command then I am willing to trust thier judgement. Posted by: Chris at August 12, 2004 08:07 AMDidn't Kerry promise Tim Russert on Meet the Press that he would release his military records? I heard yesterday that the DoD has 'em all and just needs him to authorize the release. Wouldn't that eliminate much of the mystery? Posted by: Carl S at August 12, 2004 08:45 AMHoly shit, Frank. That was awesome. (Stephen: is it OK to say "awesome" on this blog?) Posted by: Les Jones at August 12, 2004 08:45 AMKen: "I mean can you even imagine the media's reaction if Bush's call sign was comparable?" Now, there's an interesting irrelevant question? Most fighter pilots have radio nicknames -- or so we learn from the Tom Cruise movie "Top Gun". So, what was Shrub's? Presumably it was NOT "Shrub". Does anybody know? Posted by: pouncer at August 12, 2004 09:02 AMThe Deaniacs sold their soul to a man even more insane than the guy they really loved. Wow. That's about as well and concisely put as I have yet seen. Frank, if you do start a blog, let me know and you're on the blogroll right away. Posted by: Jay Solo at August 12, 2004 09:25 AMI think Kerry could probably get past the "christmas in cambodia" thing. What he can't get past is when he came out the other day and said he to wouldve gone into Iraq, with or without the the WMD's. This is a problem for Kerry because its contrary to the message hes been sending for the past year. He's been running a "not me" campaign, but now he comes out and says "me too". His base, a large part of which are the deaniacs wont forgive him for this, because to do so is to admit they themselves are wrong. They cant do that, they wont do that, so Kerry will pay. The "christmas in cambodia" the "magic hat" just add potatoes and carrots to an already boiling pot of "what does he stand for" stew. and theres a big chunk of Kerrys ass simmering in the bottom of it Posted by: Frank Martin at August 12, 2004 11:38 AMCan't find Bush's F-102 cals sign in a 10 minute google search, but current call signs are Eagle One for Bush and Big Time for Cheney, at least according to the happy warriors over at http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1188887/posts. While Eagle One is dignified and classy, I wonder if Cheney's handle refers to his Clymer comment from the 2000 election? Posted by: Me at August 12, 2004 12:31 PM |
