He told the senate foreign relations committee in '72 that the Vietnam War was a mistake, that communists were no threat to us, and that Americans were being paranoid. That's how he's going to wage this war?

Does anyone have good knowledge, or link(s) to unbiased details of John's Vietnam tour.

There seems to be conflicting evidence about:

1. The circumstances of his voluntary duty. Some info says he initially tried for alternative service, when that did not work, he accepted the Navy?

2. The circumstances of his service; how long in Vietnam, how long in active service? Did he serve out his enlisted term?

3. The circumstances of his metals. Some info indicates it was John who made the case for the awards, not his superior(s)?
