From an AP story on Iran and terrorism:
"We will continue to look and see if the Iranians were involved," Bush said. "I have long expressed my concerns about Iran. After all it's a totalitarian society where people are not allowed to exercise their rights as human beings."
Wow. Bet they're still chewing on their wingtips at State over that one. Kudos to Dubya for finally telling it like it is. I bet this little quote (via the free Iranian blogosphere, natch) makes an impact in Iran in the same way Reagan's "Evil Empire" speech lifted the spirits of Soviet prisoners a generation ago.
Speaking truth to evil in this case may be late in coming, but it's still more than welcome. John Kerry could do a lot worse than endorsing Bush's remarks.
Late? What about the whole "Axis of Evil" thing? That was more than two years ago.
Maybe the drumbeat wasn't as intense as we picked off Afghanistan, then Iraq...but look who seems to be next on the list now that those two countries have been cleansed of tyranny?
Strategery.
Potentially huge. Remember that Congress authorized Bush to use force on any country aiding the 9/11 attacks. If he can assert that Iran did so, he can attack Iran, legally, without a declaration of war or an "authorization for the use of force" as we call them nowadays.
At any moment. Say, when those seven CVs turn up in the Persian Gulf instead of the Taiwan Straits.
