Demolition

You know, if you'd asked nicely, I probably could have arranged for an air strike... Posted by: Will Collier at June 9, 2004 11:23 AMNext thing, you'll tell me I should just stand on the roof with a laser designator... Posted by: Stephen Green at June 9, 2004 11:28 AMAn airstrike would be a bad idea. Just consider what Steve is stockpiling in his basement for the local militia... Posted by: Laurence Simon at June 9, 2004 11:33 AMI barely recognize the place! Guess you decided not to keep the 60's tile...LOL Posted by: Kat Wolf at June 9, 2004 11:40 AMYou are doing this yourself without help? How hard is it to get the tiles off the wall? Posted by: Enrak at June 9, 2004 11:52 AMLaser designator? Please. That's so 1991. No need to stand on the roof; we just hacked Reason's server and got your GPS coordinates. Wait 'til you see how quickly a JDAM can get your reconstruction project off the ground (and how high)... Posted by: Will Collier at June 9, 2004 11:54 AMEnrak, Not by myself, no. Rylie, our kitchen design guy, is also our demolition guy. Melissa and I were going to do it this weekend, but decided against it. I'd have dicked around for an entire day just tearing out the soffit -- because I've never done it before, and would have been over-cautious. Between the two of us, we got everything out but the stuctural bits of the soffit in under three hours. Not a bad morning's work. Posted by: Stephen Green at June 9, 2004 12:02 PMAnd you're still finding time to blog and comment. No way have I been that productive today. Posted by: Matt at June 9, 2004 12:45 PMSo, you got Rylie on the job? Would that be Three Fingered Rylie from Bob Vila's Home Again? ed Posted by: ed at June 9, 2004 01:36 PMYou missed a spot... Posted by: Badger at June 9, 2004 01:46 PMTO: Stephen Green [1] Worked on a moving a database system from Visual FoxPro to another environment. [2] Expanded the garden on the roof to include a new trough to grow leeks. [3] Dabbled in PhotoShop to come up with a method for making digital images of older houses in the neighborhood to look more artistic. Plan on printing them out and framing them for hallways. [4] Dinked around on some stained glass work I've got going. [5] Spackled some wall surface in the first floor powder room, which is being redecorated. Now I'm going down to the basement to replace a heating element in this kiln I'm rebuilding. Later, I'm going to the county party meeting. Enjoy, Chuck(le) Posted by: Chuck Pelto at June 9, 2004 02:21 PMP.S. Also registered to be a volunteer oral history recorder. Posted by: Chuck Pelto at June 9, 2004 02:22 PMClearly I'm going to have to bring my digital camera to the gunnery ranges when I get to Bliss. Then we'll talk about demolition. ;) Posted by: Andrew at June 9, 2004 04:05 PMYou needed *somebody else* to take the tiles out for you? Pah! In a fit of 'this looks easy' I retiled my last bathroom all by myself. A tradesman came in to knock out some concrete bits that I couldn't budge and asked me what I had taken all the tiles off with. I pointed out a hammer and the remains of (what he later informed me was) a wood chisel to the incredulous bloke. When he left, I had the distinct feeling my story would be passed down in legend at his local pub. Stubbornness is a virtue :) Posted by: Monica at June 9, 2004 05:12 PMJust went through the same joyous process (sarcasm) myself. It starts slowly with great effort and just gets worse from there -- 90% of the hard work seems to produce 10% of the results, until everything is finally ready to happen all at once....but I digress. Just wanted to note -- you've got the old sink drain stub sticking out of the wall. Do yourself a favor and get a temporary cap wedged onto that ASAP. We had an amazing rain before I figured that out and had interesting foam coming out that pipe onto the floor. Posted by: cthulhu at June 10, 2004 12:42 AM>You know, if you'd asked nicely, I I was thinking he spent the day preparing the rituals for the tornado he clearly summoned. Posted by: rvman at June 10, 2004 08:46 AMYeah, I've had parties like that. "Um, we was just renovatin', that's the ticket." Posted by: Robert at June 10, 2004 12:16 PMI'm doing exactly the same thing to my kitchen right now. No sink, no stove. The grill is getting a good work out though. Posted by: Mike Messina at June 11, 2004 10:48 AMYou're a walking disaster, all right. Posted by: Slartibartfast at June 11, 2004 02:26 PM |
