All Kerry, All the Time
Posted by Stephen Green · 8 March 2004
JFK Jr. Jr. plans to mount legal challenges against ballots that have yet to be cast: John Kerry is determined not to lose Florida's 27 electoral votes in a swamp of recounts and recriminations this fall, vowing to mount an early legal challenge in any district that might repeat the problems that bedeviled Democratic supporters in 2000. It's gonna be a long eight months -- ten, if you want to go ahead and include the sixty-day post-election legal wrangling. Comments
Funny how he fails to mention that all of the counties that had problems were run by democratic election comissioners! Posted by: N.E. Republican at March 8, 2004 01:49 PMOr that Bush would have won anyways... Posted by: Richard at March 8, 2004 03:38 PMI wonder if our boys and girls overseas will make sure their votes are in early and correctly. Oh, yes, Senator, by all means do contest the Armed Forces vote. Posted by: Sandy P. at March 8, 2004 04:09 PMWell, indeed, with the modern Democratic Party, the jokes actually tell themselves. Assembling "legal teams" to contest prospective election results in an election that won't happen for another ten months??? Hey, why not simply enjoin Republican voters from, er, voting??? Let's skip the middlemen and go right to the core issue. Anyway, this is going to be a very long, very biased, very despicable campaign. What we're witnessing, after all, is the death of a political party. And, ironically enough, the death of a political party that is obsessed with political power. But, frankly, I think the Democratic Party should be lauded in some respects. The fact they were able to maintain so much power for so many years is astonishing, if you think about it. I mean, consider the simple math. How do you maintain majority status in both chambers of Congress for two generations when the base of your party espouses views on various core issues (e.g., taxes, welfare, racial preferences, death penalty, property rights, police power, etc.) with which VAST MAJORITIES of the total electorate disagree???!!! It's a testament to their tenacity, skill, and ruthlessness. Alas, for the Democrats (and the national liberal media), this year is the year in which all of their debts finally come due. It won't be pretty. Posted by: jtj at March 8, 2004 04:20 PMI don't think Kerry's going to have to worry this time around unless he plans on challenging the results of 43-46 states. From buttons, to ketchup, to Vietnam, this is shaping up to be the most pathetic Democratic Presidential campaign in US history. I say the "tank ride" moment comes for Kerry in early September when he starts to flag after the convention. The desperation tactics should be coming fast and furious by then. Posted by: Mike M at March 8, 2004 06:36 PMSorry but I just read the entry in Kerry's blog about the Bay Area party and buttons. His commentors think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I'd like to revise my estimate...he's going down hardcore. 47-3 Posted by: Mike M at March 8, 2004 06:53 PM47-3? Man, I don't think it'll be that bad. In terms of electoral votes, I'm thinking Bush barely tops the 300 mark. Which is enough to prevent a legal challenge, but not enough to totally smother the Dems. I agree with jtj though; we are witnessing the death of the Democratic Party as we know it. The attempt to reform it that took place during the 90s died when neither Lieberman nor Gephardt were able to muster support. The Democrats instead flew in droves to Dean and Kerry. I can't think of a single thing Kerry could say that would make me vote for him. Even if Kerry did say something that I agreed with, I wouldn't count on him to actually either believe it or follow through with action. Posted by: david at March 9, 2004 07:13 PM |
