Ugh:
Internet security experts found a new version of the Mydoom computer virus, dubbed the Mydoom.B, that evades detection measures for the original virus, Finland's F-Secure said.
"The new virus has been modified so that the original Mydoom anti-virus protection does not detect it," Mikko Hyppoenen, director of F-Secure's anti-virus division, told AFP.
"It is in the wild, and computers are getting infected, but so far in less numbers than by the original Mydoom virus," he added.
Norton AntiVirus has already intercepted 20+ infected emails today, not including the many more sent to dummy addresses on my server. We having fun yet? Wait -- it gets better:
In addition it has a new feature, rendering it impossible to access websites of several anti-virus software firms from infected computers, he said.
Update your AV software before you get hit.
20...21...22
I am at 22 intercepted infected emails today.
oh wait...make that 31 and I forgot to say thanks about the warning to update. I found I needed the new definitions too. :-/
This virus sounds like it comes from someone that knows anti-virus software really really well. Ex-employee? Particularly brilliant coder?
Weapons of Microsoft Destruction?
Weapons of Microsoft Destruction?
Clearly, the need is obvious for a preemptive strike on Redmond.
Humph,
I had 17 the first night, over 100 since the start of the virus. I'm an email harvestable webmaster, and on a lot of people's address list at work, so that's not surprising.
I'm very proud of my coworkers, (admittedly a small office, no one opened a bloody thing), so that's good.
I think attacking SCO is a bit redundant, after they have attracted the ire of IBM, was just telling my father yesterday about the Linux lawsuit, sorta like a poodle snapping at an elephant.
Leo
As a Linux user, the only effect on me is that I'm getting a bunch of bounce messages from people who must've been targetted by a MyDoom vctim who's got me in their address book. Bill Gates says we''ll have spam licked in two years. That's comforting to know, since it's his company's risible products that have enabled spam and mail viruses in the first place. That noise you can hear in the distance is the enormous sucking sound that Outlook Express makes.
