What do our troops in Iraq really want to get from home? Jim Dunnigan has the answer.
The Gerber is favored well over the Leatherman, past or present. SOG and Schrade make still better ones, though I've ruined a Schrade.
A simple pair of 6 inch Vise-Grip locking pliers is handy too.
Camelbaks are often issued overseas now, I have four of them from my trips. Make sure your deployed folks have the little cleaning kits for them (incl. a brush that reaches through the long tube) and replacement bite valves. Sanitizer in single-use packs are needed too.
If your deployed folk are farther back from the action, they can use a heavy-duty stapler and staples, or even a half-kilo of drywall screws. The commercial nails over there suck. Even at a rearward logistics base, these things will be in short supply.
