Nope, nothing today. In fact, I rather like Alterman's comments about being proud of his "dual loyalties" as an American Jew.
Of course, his pride doesn't change his often anti-Israel slant, but I admire the honesty here.
Today's piece, in fact, comes off more like he does on TV. With the exception f his Daily Show debacle, he usually sounds much more reasonable and much more reasoned that he does in print. That's the reverse of a lot of pundits, and so I thought it was worth mentioning.
Alterman linked to a Kinsley article today, which reminded me that my impression of Alterman is that he's what you would get if you took Kinsley and removed half the charm and two-thirds of the native intelligence. The Kinsley article was rather alarmist about the course of actions that Bush is taking, but note the conclusion:
"In terms of the power he now claims, without significant challenge, George W. Bush is now the closest thing in a long time to dictator of the world. He claims to see the future as clearly as the past. Let's hope he's right."
It's more likely that Alterman would french kiss Tom DeLay on the stage of a Bruce Springsteen concert than it is that he would admit the possibility that Bush might be right about something, particularly this. Kinsley has been getting gradually more shrill over the last two years, but at least he's kept that much perspective.
Oh, you didn't hear him on WLSAM promoting his book, Lady, Lady and he finally hung up.
