Ed Lambert -- Hey, when are you and Mel and the kids gonna come see the new house? -- forwarded me this letter from PETA. And it's anti-Arafat. Sort of. It's addressed to him, anyway. Read:
Your Excellency:
I am writing from an organization dedicated to fighting animal abuse around the world. We have received many calls and letters from people shocked at the bombing in Jerusalem on January 26 in which a donkey, laden with explosives, was intentionally blown up.
All nations behave abominably in many ways when they are fighting their enemies, and animals are always caught in the crossfire. The U.S. Army abandoned thousands of loyal service dogs in Vietnam. Al-Qaeda and the British government have both used animals in hideously cruel biological weaponry tests. We watched on television as stray cats in your own compound fled as best they could from the Israeli bulldozers.
Animals claim no nation. They are in perpetual involuntary servitude to all humankind, and although they pose no threat and own no weapons, human beings always win in the undeclared war against them. For animals, there is no Geneva Convention and no peace treaty—just our mercy.
If you have the opportunity, will you please add to your burdens my request that you appeal to all those who listen to you to leave the animals out of this conflict?
We send you sincere wishes of peace.
Very truly yours,
Ingrid Newkirk
President, PETA
Whoever said the peace movement was about saving human lives was obviously lying.
I wonder if PETA will say anything about this: "In commemoration of the Prophet Ibrahim’s readiness to sacrifice his only son to Allah, tens of thousands of sheep, cows and camels were sacrificed by pilgrims in Mina yesterday. They lined up for hours in the midday heat to purchase their offering."
The quote is from the Arab News, by the way. It's the first post on my blog today.
Hey, now.....
From the post, it is NOT clear whether I am a supporter of PETA or not. I wish to state that I am a member of an organization called PETA. However, the acroym is for People for the Eating of Tasty Animals. Yup, I do not mourn the donkey's passing. I only mourn that in the fiery explosion there were no steaks remaining.
But, I suppose I could complain about the use of a donkey as a payload delivery device. Why use a semi-intelligent animal when there are hundreds of willing PLO members to accomplish the same task. And all of them have less intellect than the ass.
To be fair, PETA isn't a peace organization. They really and truly believe that animals should be protected in every way, at all costs. So it's not that they're against saving human lives, it's just that they need to have the animals saved first.
Which, of course, makes the title of the entry dead on. I've disliked PETA immensely for the last few years. E-mails like this are part of the reason why.
Or:
Palestinians
Explode
Too,
Assholes
Why is PETA complaining about one dead donkey and ignoring the Palestinian terror campaign against other animals? Jews deserve the same consideration. After all, we're pigs and monkeys!
Criminy. I blogged this on the 9th. As usual, no one reads me. Woe is me. Woe. Woe.
