I probably shouldn't rub this in, but temps here in Colorado Springs have been unseasonably warm all month, and looks to remain in the upper 40s and low 50s through the beginning of February. Stay warm, kids. Comments
Damn you Stephen. I remember living through blisteringly cold, snowy Octobers there, and now more of the same in Toronto. Must cold weather follow me wherever I go? Posted by: Sean Kirby at January 24, 2003 11:23 AMWe got the same up here in Denver. (No surprise.) Only downside is this massive drought that threatens to make lawn-watering a felony next summer. Posted by: Phil at January 24, 2003 11:32 AMThat's no joke, Phil. I don't know what the restrictions are like in your area, but we're allowed to water the lawn only one day a month. Wonder how long this beautiful new lawn will last? Posted by: Stephen Green at January 24, 2003 11:34 AMAt least you can see your lawn. mine's buried under three feet of snow... Erie lake effect can be a bitch Posted by: chris at January 24, 2003 11:52 AMHey, what's going on with this weather? It's fourteen degrees in Tallahassee, Florida! And fifties in Colorado? Must be the genetically modified food or non-union labor or SUVs or something. Posted by: Robert Speirs at January 24, 2003 12:05 PMI guess there must be something keeping me here despite the prices: Silicon Valley is more like low 50s to high 60s, and should stay that way for the next week or so... Posted by: Jay at January 24, 2003 12:10 PMAnd it was 25 at my house last night. In the middle of Texas. "....cats and dogs living together. Mass hysteria!" Welcome back Stephen. Posted by: Garrett at January 24, 2003 12:14 PMI want snow! And sushi! But the frost yesterday morning was something to see, despite our daytime warmth. Hoar frost, gleaming in the sun. Yes, it's the same Colorado Springs. Posted by: Kat at January 24, 2003 12:20 PMThe rumor in Denver (actually Highlands Ranch) is that if we don't have an extremely wet Feb-April, lawn watering will be banned altogether. I'm thinking gravel...? Posted by: Phil at January 24, 2003 12:20 PMUh, folks, it's ZERO here in Michigan. Let me repeat that: ZE-RO. All you Texans and Floridians don't even know cold. Global warming, MY ASS. . . . . Posted by: STET! at January 24, 2003 12:57 PM40's and 50's? Brrrrr. I think it's about 75 degrees where I live (LA) right now. Posted by: Matt Harris at January 24, 2003 12:59 PM"10" is the number of beers one consumes during the football game. It's not supposed to be the temperature in Alabama! Posted by: Suli at January 24, 2003 01:29 PM"10" is the number of beers one consumes during the football game. It's not supposed to be the temperature in Alabama! Posted by: Suli at January 24, 2003 01:29 PMAnd I really mean that! Posted by: Suli at January 24, 2003 01:30 PMHere in Iowa the air temperature has been below zero at night. Windchills approaching -30. The silver lining is that in the semi-rural midwest you can take solace in the fact that while you're bundled up in your house, at least you're not missing anything. Posted by: Jeff Utech at January 24, 2003 02:09 PMJerk. Posted by: John Cole at January 24, 2003 02:10 PMAhhh, in Tucson it's nice and toasty, we've needed the heater ONE day in December so far, I have the fan on right now, and worked up a sweat walking to the corner store in a t-shirt (that sun is HOT!) But we only need the AC usually a day or 2 in January...but in the summer it's the rest of you who get the schadenfrude (sp?) Posted by: David Mercer at January 24, 2003 02:38 PMDamn right you shouldn't rub that in... here in Michigan we're dealing with two straight weeks under 32, most of it in the single digits with neg windchill.. that's bad even by Michigan standards. So shut the hell up about the unseasonable warmth. The above outrage is purely facetious... welcome back Steven, I was going through "Mordant wit and stylish Cynicism" withdrawl something fierce. Posted by: MarkD at January 24, 2003 02:56 PM Old memory. New Years eve-1969, Denver, almost midnight. A Chinook wind, snow on the ground, temp. 62 degrees. I and my bride had moved there, during a snowstorm, in Sept. Great memories of a wonderfull, wacky. place. Posted by: paul at January 24, 2003 03:43 PMTO: Stephen Yeah... ...unseasonably warm. The elm's are blooming 90 miles north of you. Hows the water? I think it's going to be a long, hot, waterless Summer. Last year we ended the Summer with water rationing. This year I think we'll start it with such. [Note to self. Get a hot tub to replace long hot showers.] Chuck(le) Posted by: Chuck Pelto at January 24, 2003 03:51 PMWater? We don't need no stinkin' water. Posted by: Stephen Green at January 24, 2003 04:02 PMGeez, I don't know...I think I'd welcome a little cold weather. The weather folks here in Honolulu say we have a cold front coming and that temps may get down to the high 50's! Hell, mowing the yard the week of Xmas just isn't right! Aloha! You all can go to hell. Minnesota's high today was 0 goddamn degrees. Posted by: Gorgonzola at January 24, 2003 09:31 PMCheck this spot for what real cold weather means. Meanwhile, we're getting 40's and 50's in Ft Collins, CO. Sweet. Posted by: Kimon at January 24, 2003 10:17 PMMan, 40's and 50's? That's COLD. Last night the wife and I went down to the Pier at Santa Monica in T shirts and shorts, and watched the sun set from the top of the Ferris Wheel. Then we walked the prominade and had warm chocolate bread pudding with a nice merlot. Posted by: Richard Riley at January 25, 2003 11:22 AMStephen, I think we'd better not be so smug now... just wait until summer, and then everyone freezing now can rub our noses in the fact that the whole state is on fire -- yet again. I really do wish that it would snow. Lots. And then more. And then more more more. I don't want to be living on evacuation alert like last summer... Blech. I'm depressed just thinking about it. Posted by: Diana Hsieh at January 25, 2003 12:36 PMThhhhh - heck we're just hoping the temps get UP to freezing - otherwise we'uns in New Hampshire are going to call it a new ice age! Posted by: bogie at January 25, 2003 01:47 PMScotch of adequate quality requires no water or ice. Addition of either of those would be an insult. If you can't water, Xeriscape. That was catching on bigtime in L.A. and Denver. I swear, though, people would obey the watering regulations and still wash their car inside a closed garage.
