Target-Rich Environment

Put some cash in the kitty for the Shropshire Challenge: [Anti-War maven] Philip Shropshire can very easily put his life on the line for the anti-war cause, if he has the guts to do so. Just last Thursday, I heard someone on the radio recruiting 'human shields' to go to Iraq. (I think it must have been NPR, since the rest of the show was all about what a goddess of political wisdom Cynthia McKinney is.) The recruiter said there was a preference for older (hostages) human shields, but it was clear that there is no specific age-limit, and 'older' was not defined. I suspect he meant 'over 18': even the most idiotic idiotarians have some sense that sending children into a war zone is immoral. Just three days ago, InstaPundit provided a link to an organization recruiting 'non-violent activists' to go to Iraq to help prevent war. Or at least help me figure out some other Anti-War idiots to sponsor. Ideas? Comments
Well, there's the WBW folks, to begin w/. That'd include Doctor Menlo, Grady Olivier, Amir Butler (who might do it anyway), Jak King (although he's Canadian, so that might not apply), and Brad Olson. Then, there's some fellow travelers (so to speak), including Norm Jenson. Do Norman Mailer, Kingsolver, Rall, etc., count? But, for WBW, Igor Boog appears able to make reasonable arguments w/o too much ad hominem. And many readers like the Rittenhouse Review, too? But if they want to go, by all means, let them volunteer. Posted by: Observing Lurker at September 6, 2002 03:22 PMWell, it's gotta be people who have actually used the "chickenhawk" slur, or something vaguely similar. And most of the ones that do aren't worth the attention. Hell, even Shropshire is getting far more limelight than his writing merits. Posted by: E. Nough at September 6, 2002 03:59 PM"Hesiod Theogeny" -- counterspin.blogspot.com Posted by: Robert Crawford at September 6, 2002 04:17 PMMark Konrad of Vanguard News fame is the only one at Dr. Weevil's site who has even spoken up on Shropshire's behalf. That alone says something about the company the antiwar Left keeps nowadays. Oh, and Stephen; Happy New Year, you lapsed agnostic Jew, you! ;-) Your first one with your bride too. Make it special, my man. Posted by: Pejman Yousefzadeh at September 7, 2002 02:57 AMYeah, after the WBW crowd, Hesiod is leading the pack of utter imbecility. His latest was that Bush wants to conquer Iraq to add it to the American Empire he's building to emulate the Roman empire. Scheer stupidity. Posted by: Robin Roberts at September 7, 2002 01:12 PMI would recommend sending Michael Moore. He has been campaigning against the Iraqi War. I would also send him just on general principle. (The principle being I despise him.) Posted by: Ben Fischer at September 8, 2002 05:44 PMRe: Hesiod from counterspin. I've had my run-in's with this guy. He frequently uses the term "chickenblogger" to refer to the pro-war bloggers - right off the top with insults. Not having a strong classical education, I didn't know until recently that the strange name 'Hesiod Theogony' was a handle, leading to the conclusion that Hesiod is another one of those chicken lefty psuedos, unwilling to back up his insults with his real name. I'm looking forward to these guys deciding to be even-handed and sending people to be human shields in Israeli restaurants, seders, and buses, guarding against terrorist attacks. Let me know when they do that. I won't be holding my breath. Posted by: Alex Bensky at September 9, 2002 06:28 PMCheck this out. I'm stunned. http://home.attbi.com/~sept11/ Posted by: Scott Welsh at September 9, 2002 07:47 PMIn a spirit of goodwill (which may not last long), let me ask seriously, what do you expect if you routinely describe anti-war people you disagree with as idiots and/or cowards? You complain about being smeared. Haven't you done your share, since September 12th? From what do you presume an immunity from invective? None of these are rhetorical questions. I'd really like to know. The USAf should make a comprehensive dossier of all the sites that the soi disant human shields are hiding out, and move them to the top of the list marked 'Obliterate'. First, wonder if this does anything? Max, I don't know who started the shit-slinging. But I do know who won't stop it. Rein in the WBW monkeys and maybe others will follow suit. I haven't noticed you over there admonishing them for invective. I'd wager you'll find a lot more of it over there. There, you'll find Shropshire characterizing someone on a near-daily basis as "a fucking moron", or "Nazi". Dunno about you, but that sounds a little more severe than "idiot" to me.
